The Podcast
Ukulele Is The New Black explores the way that ukulele has changed the lives of those who play it. Guests on the show range from untrained weekend players - like me! - to professionals who are lucky enough to earn a living playing music. In each episode I have a conversation with a ukulele player to find out why they started playing, what they play, who they play with - and how ukulele has changed their lives. And they play a few tunes too!

About Me
When I started playing ukulele in 2016 I didn't just get a musical instrument - I discovered a whole world of ukulele players, groups and festivals.  This happy, inclusive and creatively inspiring world has transformed my life in so many ways.

When I'm not playing ukulele, I'm doing my day job working for a software company, playing nerdy games, or doing improv.

Why support me on Patreon?
I love making this podcast and I want to keep doing it, but it does cost money to run.  Aside from the technical costs such as hosting the podcast and the website, I pay for an annual licence through APRA/AMCOS to cover copyright of the songs people play on the podcast.

Finding interesting guests to interview is also a challenge.  I don't want to just talk to friends who live near me, so any time I have to travel to another city or country I always try to find ukulele players to interview.  I know there is technology which will allow me to record conversations remotely but I have been reluctant to go that way, as I find that being in the same room results in a better dynamic between me and my guest.  I've been lucky so far as I have been able to combine podcast interviews with existing travel plans, but I don't expect this to always be the case.  If I had a budget for travelling to specific locations purely for the podcast I would be able to record some amazing conversations!
