Welcome to the Unchurching Patreon page!

Do you love Jesus, but don't love today's institutional churches? Do you think churches should be communities, not corporations?  Then maybe you should start unchurching!  Unchurching is the process of deconstructing today's institutional church model, in order to reclaim our identity as the church. Meaning, unchurching is about being the church, without going to church. (P.S. If you're on a mobile device, please click here to watch the short intro video. It explains a lot!

Why I do what I do

I know what it's like to be the only one in your circle who has questions and concerns about the way we're doing church. I also know what it's like to leave the institutional church and feel all alone in the spiritual desert, wondering if you're really hearing from God, wondering why you're the only one who seems bothered by the disconnect between the vibrant, Christ-centered church communities you read about in the Bible versus the business-like, church-centered programs we attend on Sunday mornings.

When I realized I wasn't alone, when I discovered there are actually millions of believers who think and feel just like I do about the church, it was life-changing. I'm not just talking about former churchgoers who were hurt and offended by the church (though that's how we often get labeled), but devout believers who know there must be something more than just sitting in a pew, listening to a sermon, and supporting another building project. I'm talking about folks who genuinely want to shake up the world, just like the first Christians did.

If you're unsatisfied with church-as-usual, and you want your faith to really count for something, then you owe it to yourself to check out this page and all the various unchurching resources. Be open-minded, pray about it, and listen to what the Lord has to say to you as you click on some of the links below.

Community

Though I'm a creator and communicator, perhaps the most rewarding role I have is: community-builder. In addition to a very active Facebook group, I'm building an incredible, new online forum, which is FREE (and exclusive) to all unchurching patrons! Simply sign-up here, using the same email address you used to create your Patreon account. Once the system recognizes you as a patron, you'll be granted access to post topics and comments. So, come join the conversation!

Cartoons

Here are some of the cartoons I've created for social media. Soon, I'll be sharing more cartoons via the Unchurching Blog and my email list, both of which you can find here on my website.

Explainer videos

I've shared many of the main concepts from my book, Unchurching, in the form of animated explainer videos like this intro video. To see the rest of my animations, check out my YouTube channel.

The comic

The Unchurching Community really rallied together to make this comic book happen. First, they generously supported the Kickstarter campaign to produce the book. Then, they selflessly volunteered to translate it into several different languages. You can read the entire comic book online for free right here.

My book

This is the culmination of all my work. Unchurching: Christianity Without Churchianity was basically fifteen years in the making. And if you're frustrated with today's institutional church but struggle to put the reasons into words, this is the book you've been looking for.

The podcast

The Unchurching Podcast is a great supplement to the book. We tackle questions from readers and listeners, have amazing interviews with unchurching folks all around the world, and more. You can check out the podcast online here, or on iTunes, or Google Play.

About me

Hello, my name is Richard Jacobson. I'm an ex-pastor, an artist, and the author of  Unchurching: Christianity Without Churchianity. In addition to my book, I've created several cartoons, a series of animated videos, a podcast, and an online comic book about unchurching (all of which you can find here on the Unchurching Website). I also recently co-facilitated an "unconference" and I've coordinated multiple Unchurching Meetups in various parts of the country.

Of course, much of what I do wouldn't even be possible without the generous support of the  Unchurching Community. So, whether you're a reader of the book or the comic, a listener of the podcast, or a fan of the animated videos and cartoons, I hope you'll consider becoming a patron in order to create even more amazing Unchurching projects and events.

Tiers
Unchurching Supporter
$2 or more per month
If you can pledge more than $2 a month, I'd really appreciate it. But I'd prefer not to raise the minimum price for patronage, just in case we have people who can't afford more. I want all my supporters to have access to the exclusive content I post here on Patreon and have access to the unchurching forum.
Goals
164 of 250 patrons
Once we reach 250 backers, I'll have enough support to throw the switch on a new service that will absolutely revolutionize our online community. I've been researching this for several months now and I can't wait for everyone to experience it!
