Greetings from Oslo, Norway! We just crossed the halfway mark of our European tour, and we're excited to hit some new parts of Europe, as well as see some old friends. I'm hoping to see a bit of Oslo today- particularly the park with all the sculptures- but first, I wanted to share a new video! Lara Johnston has been performing with us at our Postmodern Nights residency in LA, and has dazzled audiences with her big, soulful voice. It's no wonder that she comes from a musical family- her dad, Tom, was the principal songwriter for the Doobie Brothers. Before leaving for tour, we recorded this version of Selena Gomez' "The Heart Wants What It Wants" with her and our friend, sax man Jacob Scesney. The setup for Jacob's solo is especially entertaining- we actually delayed the shoot an hour to track down a store that had a heart shaped balloon! Thank you all SO much for your continued support! Hey all! If you caught our European tour, you know that one of the highlights of our recent European tour was Haley Reinhart's masterful interpretation of our vintage arrangement of Radiohead's "Creep" (originally performed on my youtube channel by the amazing Karen Marie). It's very rare that I record multiple versions of a song, but Haley's take on it was so fresh that I decided to record a version with her on our day off in Zurich, Switzerland. This has always been a favorite of mine to play - in fact, a recorded a piano mashup combining this song with Rihanna's "We Found Love" on my "Mashups By Candlelight" album a few years back (title? "We Found Love in a Creepy Place," of course). Vocally, it's a tour de force, and Haley really knows how to tell a story- alternating between soft, sweet tones and powerful, growled tones. Her natural talent and respect for the traditions of jazz, blues, and rock alike have given her the ability to infuse melodies with a wide palette of colors. She's truly a one of a kind talent. Thank you all SO much for your continued support, as we gear up for a full North American tour! We've just added May 4th in Portsmouth, NH, so hopefully we'll get to meet some New Englanders on this tour, too.
