A Little Bit About Me
I’m Joel Edmund Anderson. My career has been in education at both the high school and college level. I’ve always seen myself as somewhat of a “blue collar” kind of scholar, in that, although I am stimulated by the academic work, my passion lies in taking what I’ve learned at the graduate school level and making it accessible, understandable and engaging for people who want to learn more about Biblical Studies but who will probably never take college courses.

I’m currently a part-time adjunct instructor who teaches 2-3 Biblical Studies courses per semester at the University of North Alabama. I write regularly on my blog resurrecting orthodoxy, I have self-published my own translation of the Bible (The New Testament; The Old Testament: Torah and Former Prophets; The Old Testament: Major and Minor Prophets; The Old Testament: The Writings), a book of poetry, and a book about my experience teaching high school. I’ve also published a number of academic articles in Biblical Studies, as well as a book that looks at the current creation/evolution debate.

For most of my career, though, I taught English and Bible at various Christian high schools. I’ve always had a love for literature in general, and Biblical Literature in particular. In fact, at the last school at which I worked, I was the head of the Biblical Worldview department and I was in the process of developing a four-year curriculum that covered the Old Testament, New Testament, Church History, and Western Culture.

Now that I am an adjunct instructor at the University of North Alabama, all that high school curriculum I was developing is still in folders. Upon the encouragement of a few friends and former teaching colleagues, though, I’ve decided to go back, refashion those courses into books that can either stand alone or be used as curriculum for either high schools or church programs, and get them published. I already am in the midst of editing my book on Western Culture, and it should be out sometime in early 2019. As for the Old and New Testament books, I will be starting to put them together this fall and next spring. And that is where you come in.

What is Patreon and Why Do I Need It?
Patreon is an online platform that is set up to be a way that people (like you) can join and help people like me finish their creative projects. You choose to make a monthly donation to my cause, and in return you will get access to video lessons, sneak peaks of chapters as I work on the books, as well as free signed copies of various books, depending on which donation tier you choose.  Patreon will give me the needed time, money, and opportunity to get these projects done. It will supplement my current income as a part-time adjunct instructor and provide me with the resources I need to write books that I hope will be a tremendous help to anyone interested in coming to a better knowledge and fuller appreciation of the Old and New Testaments.

What Do I Want to Do?
I actually have a number of projects lined up that I hope to accomplish. Like I said, my Western Culture book is now in the works. I want to then work on my Old and New Testament books over the course of the next year or so. These three books will be able to stand alone as books for the general public, but I hope to create along with them a curriculum guide that will allow high schools and churches to use them in a classroom setting.

In addition to those projects, I have always wanted to write a historical fiction novel about the events surrounding the Jewish War of AD 70. It was a monumental event in history, and the fact is most Christians have absolutely no idea what happened or how it factors in to the events of the early Church.

What Do You Get for Your Patronage?
This information is available in the Tier Section. Basically, benefits will break down in the following way:
$3/Month: A “thank you” for my resurrecting orthodoxy blog; Access to a weekly lesson from me.
$5/Month: In addition to the benefits of the first tier, you will also get a free signed copy of my book Getting Schooled—a humorous book about my teaching experiences as a young teacher.
$10/Month: In addition to the benefits in the first two tiers, you will also get a free signed copy of one of my translation volumes of the Bible.
$25/Month: In addition to the benefits in the first three tiers, you will also get a free signed copy of my Western Culture book, my Old Testament book, and my New Testament book when they get published.
That’s it. If I get enough patrons and things go well, I might be able to give out more free content or video talks as things progress. The more interaction I get from you, the more I will be inspired to write as much content as I can.
