For the past 3 years I have been working on creating a uniquely new and viable process to create art through repurposing discarded Solar Etching Plates. This new process is intended to prompt the observer to consider the entirety of the surface, facilitating a hierarchical perception and not just a prima facie understanding of the subject matter. Physical and visual texture and layers are achieved through the use of intaglio ink applied to a plate that has been constructed from many small square pieces of reclaimed Solar Etching plates. The inked Matrix is then transferred to paper in the traditional printmaking process and often complimented by additional painting. These new works are intended to engage the viewer and make a statement regarding the futility of attempting to compete with today's mass media environment. Moreover, the process of working with Solarplates in this way is new and unique to printmaking and adds a contemporary significance to a process that by some accounts predates history.

This series is a major shift from my former figurative works as an act of self discovery. Two decades of art making has lead to a ground breaking beginnings of tackling issues relating to identity and beliefs. I believe that we are a product of our choices and experiences. Displacement has played a major roles in my life and the fragmented yet orderly aesthetic of these new works has been the most accurate depiction of a self portrait.
