"Time Is Nothing": my private Spotify Playlist

It's a rainy day in Hamburg and I've spent it in bed with coffee, candles, blankets and my guitar. Some of you asked me to share my playlist "Time Is Nothing", that I told you about in the last post I made, and of course beautiful things are meant to be shared :) This is a playlist with songs that for me are simply timeless, ethereal and just pure, good songwriting. For me, a good song can survive without any production, stripped to only the melody and the lyrics. When you can hear a song with no layers and huge produced arrangements, and still get touched by it, that's when I know it's a good song to its core. And that is the kind of music I aspire to create. And by being inspired by these great songwriters I hope I will one day.

I hope you will find both some old and new tunes to accompany another coffee, and please share in the comments your own Spotify playlist, favorite "timeless" song or just what you're listening to right now! I'm always looking for new music to be inspired by :)

Love Always,

Charlotte

New Lyric Idea to "Through In Time"

Dear friends,

It's a still Sunday morning in Berlin and I'm writing stories on my guitar. I just finished this new little song, and thought I wanted to share the lyrics with you, now that I have this great platform to do it on! I will show you the whole song soon too, but there is something about these lyrics that felt so story-like, that I think they can stand pretty well on their own. I hope you will like it! Have a beautiful Sunday <3

Through In Time

Verse

The time is still, the sun is low

I've never felt this calm before

Spend my days just writing about you

Seasons come and seasons go

Things will fall and things will grow

Still so many things untold

that I'd like to tell to you

There is a crack in the mirror where I live now

covered it up, like the traces on my skin now

like a frame, to rename, all the roads gone wrong

It might get rough as the seasons turning colder

but I’ll stay tough, I am learning to be bolder

I’ll be brave, won’t walk away

because I’d rather walk with you.

Chorus

I will take this heart

my broken parts

and build them up

for you

and if you take me on

I will take you on

and together we’ll get through

through in time

Verse

Let me keep those walls of mine

I've kept them for a long long time

maybe one day I'll take them for you

Let's stay shy, let's take it slow

I’ll stay mine and you stay yours

Let this story have its course

Let’s not measure it in time

Chorus

I wll take this heart

my broken parts

and build them up

for you

and if you take me on

I will take you on

and together we’ll get through

through in time

Outro

A glass of wine, a hand to hold

Let's go home when it gets cold

I've been far, I've wanderer wide

let's not measure this in time

Chris Derbidge You've been told by countless people that you are an important inspiration to them. Hearing that must feel good, but almost too good to be true at times. Has it hit you yet that you are sitting there side by side with talent that you inspired?

Eric Hofmann My hopes were so high when I saw this song by this duo, and they were exceeded. Also, I hope I'm not the only one who smiled at Kina singing "I was born to endure this kind of weather" when she regards 50ºF as an Arctic nightmare.

Packing Up My Childhood

I have a little vlog for you all today! This weekend I began the (lonnnng) process of packing up my childhood. It wasn't the most productive first attempt, but I had fun :) I figure it's going to get emotional enough once I really dig in, so one day of messing around and getting distracted would be ok...

Kina Grannis

August 4, 2014 16:53:18

Stefan Schumacher ... it’s always heart-rending to abandon things from one’s childhood and youth but I know one can give up a few things and keep what is really essential (it’s not an easy choice, though). And oops, I had really forgotten that yesterday was your birthday! I hope you had a wonderful day! You’ll find a small present from me in your P.O. box before long! PS: The Queen-Elizabeth-like dress with the big collar is the most stylish!

Nadine van Kaalboom Hi, I'm not sure if you read my birthday tweet... but again, I wanted to say thanks for being so awesome and for bringing so many great humans together! As I could read you had a "magical birthday". That's nice to hear!!! :) Any birthday surprises you want to let us know? (I hope my little present found its way to you/your PO Box.) Your "Packing Up My Childhood" video - thanks for sharing it with us - made me a bit emotional. Had to think back to the days when I lived at home. It was always nice at my parents' house. I guess they also kept a lot of my childhood things...Will explore the depth of my previous years of life when I'm visiting them next time. PS: Oh my...had those (similar) shoes, too...haha.

Thank you for being you and never change!! [well, change is good, but don't ever change for the worse. ;-) ]

Between Sheets - Imogen Heap Cover

I took a little time out of my off day in Paris yesterday to make a video of one of my favorite Imogen Heap songs. I pretty much find her to be a complete musical genius. If you have not checked out her album Ellipse, please do so! And be sure to check out this song in particular. Amazing production, feelings, textures. It's hard to do it justice, but I enjoyed trying :) Kina p.s. Happy monday! Anyone have fun plans this week?

Kina Grannis

June 16, 2014 21:13:50

Kelsey Ugh, please record this for mp3 with just your voice and guitar like the video. Absolute perfection.

June 17, 2014 17:49:49 · Reply

Eric Hofmann I can still remember sitting down to Ellipse after your First Train Home cover and being amazed at how much better your version was. I know it's not a competition etc. but you just killed it. You really just killed it. Also this song, and for that matter The Fire. I mean, she didn't even sing any words! ;)

June 17, 2014 22:26:58 · Reply

Jennifer Yarrington First Train Home was my introduction to Kina- I love the song and I wondered if I could learn to play it on the guitar, what would it sound like stripped down- would it work? So I looked on youtube to see if anyone had and...Kina as you noted killed it., omg, it was stunning. I fell down the rabbit hole of her channel that afternoon and watched all of them. And I have been hooked ever since. any Imogen Heap covers are extra special for me!
