About

River's Wish Animal Sanctuary is located on 65 acres in northwest Spokane County. We incorporated as a 501c3 nonprofit charity in 2005 (Tax ID 20-1226268) but have been involved with rescue since 1994.

River's Wish provides a safe haven for bovines, equines, goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits, chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks, dogs and cats. We assist local animal protection by providing refuge for animals in need. We work with other rescue organizations and sanctuaries in helping animals. Many of our residents have special needs.

River's Wish offers Sanctuary Based Humane Education integrating Art, Animals and Garden. We offer a Compassion For Animals programs and Compassionate Living Workshops. We advocate for vegan living for the animals, the environment and health reasons.

River's Wish is a volunteer organization with no paid staff. We have a large community of extremely dedicated volunteers who help at the sanctuary throughout the week. Their hard work, commitment and kindness makes River's Wish function smoothly and productively. The animals are well cared for and the grounds are well maintained.

The co-founders are artists and teachers. Kit is in her 31st year of being a full time art teacher in the public schools. With a Masters in Humane Education she integrates this into her volunteer work with the sanctuary. Pete is an accomplished metalsmith artist and teaches the jewelry classes at Spokane Falls Community College. He is the Sanctuary Manager. Kit and Pete live at the sanctuary. Both have been entirely volunteering their time and resources since the beginning.

Through a lot of hard work and perseverance our vision continues to grow. We invite the public for tours, volunteer opportunities and events at the sanctuary. We have three annual events: Art For the Animals, Thanksgiving of Compassion and Blacksheep Friday.

We would love to have you join us as a Patreon in our mission of saving lives through rescue, education and advocacy! Thank you!
