Classic texts, good conversation, and an attempt to salvage academic thought from too much seriousness. This is the Mud-Spattered Philosophy podcast.

What is Mud-Spattered Philosophy?
Mud-Spattered Philosophy is a podcast put out by some grad students.

Why the name?
The name of our podcast comes from Plato’s Republic, VII.536c. There, Socrates notices that philosophy has been “undeservingly spattered with mud.” In seeking philosophy's renewal, Glaucon and Socrates must put away seriousness and assume a playful approach to their dialectic. This podcast will accordingly be our attempt to salvage academic thought from that same seriousness.

Why the podcast format?
The podcast format allows us to genuinely engage one another in an open dialogue. This is not treatise or an analysis of logical arguments––it is a conversation. Like Plato’s dialogues we hope that our listeners will leave each episode with more questions than when they first arrived.

Who is the audience?
Anyone interested in philosophic thought and the continuum of the great ideas of Western Civilization.

What do the creators of Mud-Spattered Philosophy hope to accomplish?
It is our hope to create a platform for listeners to tune into conversations we’re already having. We want to give back to the communities that formed us, reach out to new audiences, and further the great conversation of the West. We are excited to hear from all of our listeners, continuously improve our quality, and grow in learning along the way.
