As an elementary school teacher, I know firsthand that there are no black history textbooks or curriculum for teachers to follow to instruct kids on a K-8 level. Year after year we are left to search online, do the same "biography" or wax museum activities, find our own relevant books, turn on movies that are too old for our kids to fully understand, and try to fit in black history as much as we can in a few short weeks -- but often test prep and other school mandated activities cut down on this.

Last year I started compiling a no-prep, super fun, STANDARDS BASED (YES!), workbook that teachers can use for black history month and beyond. It is 4 'units' (6 weeks) long and quickly gives kids just an introduction to all of black history, from Ancient African to 2018. It's sort of like a black history 101 course -with each unit ending with a quiz, and has optional tests given at 2, 4, and 6 weeks. Not only that, but there are fun HANDS-ON PROJECT BASED learning activities that you can choose to do in your classroom, or have the children do them at home.

Oh, and the text is differentiated, so children on various reading levels can independently learn -- while still being rigorous enough for them to pick up grade level new vocabulary. "Is it common core aligned?" - asks your coach - Yes! And the quiz and test questions align with the types of questions your students will see on common core ELA exams! (Though, it's totally optional to use.)

Besides support me in this labor of love, the money will be used to finish the e-booklet by January 20 (which includes powerpoint presentations and videos!), with the majority of the costs being paying for usage and creation of images, having other educators and historians edit and proofread, and getting the material copyrighted and publishing some hard copies.

$0 of $2,300 per month
This is the minimum amount we need to completely fund this project BY JANUARY 20TH, including but not limited to, editing, publishing, and gaining usage rights for photos. We will need to stay at $2,300 a month to keep the Black educational materials coming.
