About Arielle Twist

Tansi!

My name is  Arielle Twist and I am a Nehiyaw, Two-Spirit, interdisciplinary artist who is creating to reclaim and harness ancestral magic and memories. I am the author of Disintegrate/Dissociate and have writing in Them, Prism International, The Fiddlehead, This Magazine, Canadian Art and CBC

In 2019 I was chosen as one of the canadian writers to watch by CBC Books and Disintegrate/Dissociate was on end of year lists by AutostraddlePOPSUGARCBC booksThe AdvocateThe Writers Trust of Canada and Ms Magazine. I was also nominated for The Pushcart Prize, Shortlisted for The National Magazine Awards and was awarded the Indigenous Artist Recognition Award by Arts Nova Scotia, Won the Indigenous Voices Award for Published Poetry and Won the Dayne Ogilvie Prize for Emerging LGBTQ Authors awarded from the Writers Trust of Canada.

My visual practice includes Illustration, Photography, Painting, Sound and Textiles. Projects I am currently working on are A Graphic Anthology, A Collection of Poetry and a Memoir while also maintaining a Visual and Curatorial practice. I have begun my MFA at OCAD university in Toronto and will be sharing sneak peeks of the things I am working on, so expect sounds, words and visuals to come throughout our time together!

As an indigenous trans woman, survival and stability often feels like a fleeting fantasy but minor successes and praise has made this dream a possibility - I cant wait to see what I can make with your help!
