Welcome to the sandbox of YA Author K. Ancrum, author of THE WICKER KING and THE WEIGHT OF THE STARS

This year's book is called THE BOY AND THE SERPENT.

It is a YA Contemporary Time Travel Romance about two boys standing at opposite ends of time: walking towards each other, but always looking back.

The book is divided into two different stories: It doesn't matter which you read first. You can read both at the same time, or you can read one and wait for the other to finish and read that afterwards. At any rate, they're designed to be together.

The first story is called Red and the Bomb

Blurb: In the same small town in which THE WICKER KING is set, in the year 2015, we meet Edwin Hammerstein, nicknamed "Red". He is cunning and cruel, but vulnerably in love with his bright and bubbly best friend Sarah Berghoff-- his social opposite-- who he's anxious to confront with his affections.

An introvert by choice, he spends his time helping a local crazy hermit, Bill, hunt for scraps of a rare shiny metal in the woods. When Sarah, who has been single for the entire time he's known her, begins to reciprocate interest from another boy, Owen, Red begins to self-destruct.
He forms a drinking problem that doesn't go unnoticed by his school, and they assign him to work with a school psychologist. While telling the psychologist about his friendship with the hermit Bill  he notices that she reacts strangely to hearing about it and Red begins to get suspicious. He goes to Bill to talk to him about the experience, and Bill reacts strangely too--going quieter than usual even for the hermit. He asks Red to leave it alone, but of course that just makes Red more suspicious. Red tells Sarah that he thinks --unlikely as it may seem-- the adults may know each other

The second story is called Bill the Abomination.

Blurb: We meet Bill who is, at this time, 17 years old. It is revealed that Bill is actually from the year 2035 and lived in a civil dystopia run by military dictator Edwin Hammerstein. In the era Bill is from, he’d been taken with many other teenagers his age to be test subjects for a military weapons development company working on a time technology.

Bill winds up being the first person who isn’t killed or maimed by the machine. When they turn it on, he wrenches the date dial back in a desperate and heroic effort to travel back in time to 1997—which is when Edwin/Red was born. He does this, so he can go back to Red’s hometown and kill him—ending the dystopia before it begins. Unfortunately, because this is new technology and a prototype at that, it sends him back to 1982 and then breaks. Bill, trapped in 1982, winds up living with a blue collar family comprised of a socially awkward girl his age named Diana, her little brother Tchaikovsky, and their father who works in a nearby toy factory (the same one from THE WICKER KING and THE WEIGHT OF THE STARS).

TW: profanity, mild drug use, mild sexual content, trauma recovery.

When both stories are complete, donors of $5 a month will additionally receive a PAPERBACK copy of the book in which Red and the Bomb is printed right side up and Bill the Abomination is printed upside down.

Donors of $10 a month  or more will additionally receive a HARDCOVER copy of this book with a gold embossed cover and illustrations as well as Red and the Bomb printed right side up and Bill the Abomination printed upside down.
