"Poison" as "Old Jack Swing"

Hey all! Back in the good ol' USA, and back to work making new videos! Whew!! Our European tour was an amazing time, and it was especially thrilling to meet so many patrons that helped make it possible to get us over to Europe. I'm already missing the familiar European brands that have grown so near and dear to us, such a Carrefour and Costa. I am, however, excited to begin our first major North American tour this Spring! Anyway, here's this week's video, featuring the incredible talent that is Shoshana Bean (and her dog, Mimi). We both have a nostalgic appreciation for the '90s hit, "Poison" by Bell Biv Devoe, so we thought it'd be fitting to remake it a throwback soul twist. To do this, we brought in Erin and Belinda, both excellent soul singers, and added the appropriately named Todd McCool on guitar, for some "Tainted Love" style strumming. As is often the case with remaking '90s jams, we faced the conundrum of translating a couple of rap verses into earlier musical styles; fortunately, Shoshana is quite adept at doing this, and was able to make the phrasing fit quite nicely. Oh, and speaking of Shoshana- as always, she again proved why she's one of the best vocalists in the world; every note was pitch perfect, and this was only the second take. A Vintage Version of "Creep" with Haley Reinhart

Hey all! If you caught our European tour, you know that one of the highlights of our recent European tour was Haley Reinhart's masterful interpretation of our vintage arrangement of Radiohead's "Creep" (originally performed on my youtube channel by the amazing Karen Marie). It's very rare that I record multiple versions of a song, but Haley's take on it was so fresh that I decided to record a version with her on our day off in Zurich, Switzerland. This has always been a favorite of mine to play - in fact, a recorded a piano mashup combining this song with Rihanna's "We Found Love" on my "Mashups By Candlelight" album a few years back (title? "We Found Love in a Creepy Place," of course). Vocally, it's a tour de force, and Haley really knows how to tell a story- alternating between soft, sweet tones and powerful, growled tones. Her natural talent and respect for the traditions of jazz, blues, and rock alike have given her the ability to infuse melodies with a wide palette of colors. She's truly a one of a kind talent. Thank you all SO much for your continued support, as we gear up for a full North American tour! We've just added May 4th in Portsmouth, NH, so hopefully we'll get to meet some New Englanders on this tour, too. Until then, I'm enjoying a little bit of rest...although, I recorded 2 new videos just yesterday, so not TOO much rest! As always, I've attached the .mp3 and a high quality .wav. Enjoy! -Scott

Our '60s Girl Group Remake of "Burn"...with a Flame-O-Phone

So, this is probably the most ridiculous video I've ever shot, and also one of my favorites. When my friend Stefan Zeniuk told me that he has rigged his bari sax to shoot flames from the bell, I instantly knew I had to put it in a video. Finally- I found the perfect one: A '60s "girl group" style remake of Ellie Goulding's "Burn," sung by Robyn Adele Anderson, Cristina Gatti, and Ashley Stroud. This tune lent itself quite well to the "Brill Building" sound, and the girls' voices blended really well - all three are fantastic singers. For added authenticity, Ashley did some choreography for the group. And, oh yeah - there's also a guy shooting fire from a saxophone in the background. My favorite part was watching Adam's reactions, since he was unfortunate enough to be positioned right next to the Flame-O-Phone. He was a good sport, though, and Stefan knew what he was doing (he's part of a fire-based performance art group). My apartment was unharmed, so that made me happy. I've attached the mp3 and a higher quality .wav file. Thanks again for all your support (especially since I might lose my security deposit when my landlord sees this one)! -Scott

Chad Loeffler Love the Flame-O-Phone. Saw the video announcing the European tour dates first, wondered what the gag was about with the fire extinguisher, then saw this and got the aha moment. Perhaps a cover of "Pompeii" could be next, as the erupting volcano is right here...

Justice J Hi Scott. I know this is not exactly what you do but I'd like to know if you would consider making an female vocal English version of this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrcLmF9Exco The lyrics are powerful and relevant today. Its aimed for the Jamaican audience but I believe a version that could be understood in English would make a powerful and popular song (just a thought)
