I was sitting at an open mic listening to someone read a story, and I asked myself a question. Why hasn't someone published this guy? Where does the unpublished author go? Later, I was listening to a New York Times Bestselling Author explain the changes her publisher had requested. Luckily, she had the clout to say "no." Most do not. Where will the independent voices go for publication?

As a former English teacher, I believe that literature can change the world. I know that a simple story can be an allegory for something more; we can change the world through a novel, a short story, or a poem. Several weeks later, I founded Kellogg Press as the home of independent and first time voices. In the past year, I have published two books, and made agreements for four more. All are previously unpublished authors, except for the Kansas Poet Laureate.Kellogg Press has a desire to bring all voices to the table including marginalized groups such as women, people of color, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Your patronage gives me the ability to find these voices and bring them to the world.

In addition to publishing books, Kellogg Press is forming The Soden's Grove Literary Society. Initially, this will be a literary journal that will publish short pieces with the same mission for independent and first time authors. My dream is to turn the literary journal into an actual meeting of a literary society, a festival of books and all things "word." Your patronage will give me the ability to make this dream a reality.
