About Direct Examination: The South Carolina Lawyer Podcast

Hey y'all...we're The Direct Examination Podcast

We're three lawyers in South Carolina, all from different backgrounds.

Dayne is from Lexington, SC and is a proud Gamecock. He practices criminal law for Price Benowitz on Taylor Street downtown.

Amber is from Batesburg-Leesville, SC and you can hear it in her voice. Also a Gamecock, Amber practices family law for Moore Taylor in West Columbia, SC.

Joseph is from Columbia. He went to Wofford and won't let you forget it. Joseph practices civil defense for Vernis & Bowling of Columbia.

Dayne, Amber, and Joseph don't have much in common except one thing: they love to talk law.

The Direct Examination Podcast is a South Carolina-centric legal podcast, the only of its kind in the State. The weekly interview podcast features in-depth talks with well-known attorneys and politicians from across the State, while often featuring the fun and ridiculous sides of the law. The podcast has interviewed notables as SC Supreme Court Justice John Few, State Senator Dick Harpootlian, State Representative Micah Caskey, civil rights lawyer Malissa Burnette, Richland County Solicitor Byron Gipson, famed criminal attorney Jack Swerling, Legal Remedy Brewing owner Chad McGowan, legal internet sensation Eric "Ducati James" Poston, and David Rudolf from Netflix's "The Staircase." We have recorded forty episodes so far, spanning two seasons.

Our third season starts in September, and some of our scheduled guests will include:

-SC Bar President Bev Carroll
-Charleston School of Law President Ed Bell
-“Voice of the Gamecocks” Todd Ellis
-Columbia Councilwoman/Mayor Pro Tem Tamieka Issac Devine
-Charleston Bar President Debra Gammons
-Attorney Rhodes Bailey and his band Whiskey Tango Revue
-Cynthia Cothran from the Bar on Mock Trial
-Attorney Robert Goings on BBQ

We will also feature our normal array of topical shows, with shows focusing on estate planning, work/life integration, healthcare law, victims’ rights, probate court, and education law.

We started the podcast with the goal of providing a lighter look at the law, aiming to reach both lawyers and non-lawyers alike. Direct Examination has had over 10,000 plays/listens, with 53% of those listens in Columbia, South Carolina and the rest scattered throughout the State (listeners have also tuned in from Sweden, Saudi Arabia, the UK, and Canada). "Direct Examination" has been routinely featured by the South Carolina Bar ("on our must-listen list!") and the podcast and hosts were profiled by South Carolina Lawyer Weekly in 2018 and the Richland County Bar in 2019. The Podcast has a "Five Star" rating on Apple Podcasts and is also available on Stitcher and Spotify. The Podcast can also be found on Instagram and Twitter (@SCLawPod) as well as Facebook. New episodes are released each Monday.

By supporting our podcast, you'll help us continue to tell these stories, continue to reach our audience, and continue to do fun things for the law community in South Carolina. Additionally, we have this amazing platform that we would like to use to promote great causes, events, products, attorneys, and firms. We are proud of our product and look forward to bringing you more of it in the coming months.
