I'm Nancy Hightower, an ex-evangelical elven lass living, teaching, and writing in NYC. I've won awards for my fiction and flash fiction, and been nominated for a Pushcart. My Sojourner and Huffington Post articles on spirituality and politics have gotten thousands of shares on Facebook through teachers, writers, pastors and churches. I have also written about mental illnessthe satanic panicfeminism#metoo, and reviewed fantasy and science fiction for The Washington Post, Brooklyn Rail, and Newsday. I've even written about the monstrous in art.

I am working on several projects this fall and winter, including a short fiction collection, a memoir about growing up in the evangelical South, and a book on digital storytelling. I've also been invited to read at a speculative literary conference in the spring. I support my creative life in part by teaching full time as an adjunct professor and freelance writer. With your help, I can finish these projects and participate in the conference without the added stress of finding more work on top of what I already do.

As Patrons, you'll get a behind-the-scenes look at the magic and wonder in NYC, including stories about elves on the subway, cans floating in the sky, secret bookstores, and animals crawling up the Empire State Building. You'll hear about how I changed into a corset in the middle of Grand Central Station and wound up in a dentist's chair that evening or the pig at the party that could do card tricks. More of my fiction, essays, reviews, and poetry can be found at NancyHightower.com.
