Chris Pratt Steve - You are not alone talking to yourself! I argue with myself all the time. Good educational video. Now in the spirit of starting a dialogue: I was somewhat surprised, given your conservative style, that you decided to go for the perfect one despite recognizing you were tired? (Of course by this I do not mean the go-arounds which made sense.) Clearly it was not an issue, but it did remind me of "Human Factors" :) That said, I also fully appreciate your feelings on the mojo escaping. I get that on occasion coming in to my home base which is notoriously ugly! (See my vids on that!) I guess we all get it and it is probably "good stress". Keep them coming and looking forward to our planned fly-in if we ever get our timing right..

Flight Chops Thnaks Chris! And for sure - this was a "human factors" moment - that's part of why I shared it... sometimes having a plan and feeling the need to stick to it is not ideal. This was a case where if I'd realized I was tired, and skipped the plan to go for the grass, and just ended on my 11th wheel landing on pavement, it would have been a near perfect flight. But that's no fun :) In all seriousness, yes, you are absolutely correct in pointing this out. And heck yeah, I'm looking forward to a "fall colours flight" out there with the Super Cub!

Bill Flyge 10+ touch and goes is tough go'in for anyone. Power and that trim handle you hate was probably the issue, right? Good stuff though!

Flight Chops Thanks Bill - and yes for sure - I'd been a little traumatized by that experience where "stretching the glide" resulted in a hard and early landing (did you see that video? :) So this time, I was afraid to pull the power when I was slow, and thus I was poorly managing my energy for those 3 pointers.

Jim Stroh Damn Steve…great “spot on” topic. Asking the 1 to 10 question of a passenger(s) is best idea I have heard to date with passenger assessment. Before watching I would have presumed asking if a passenger or passengers were having fun or enjoying the experience was a "good enough" question. This reminds me of a time I had a fairly new GA flyer on board. I could tell she was stiffening up as we approached the airport from 15 NM and her rigidness and silence continued through the pattern. She seemed okay and when I asked if she was okay, I recall her telling me she was. Later after we landed did I probe deeper. She told me her concern was whether I had remembered to “put the landing gear” down. Anyway, we were flying a fixed gear aircraft and she had been looking at the right tire and gear in the down position each time she looked out the window, telling me exactly what you reminded us – sometimes our passengers fears or anxieties are best measured in a more granular method than simply asking if they “are okay”. Had I asked her to rate her feelings, I probably would have been given a single digit number and she may have volunteered the reasons for that feeling where a prompt and informative answer from me (then) might have easily jumped her up to a double-digit retort as we prepared to land.

Marcos Dominguez Wow Jim !! I definitely agree with that!! Some weeks ago I read your comment and got the idea of using the 1 to 10 system (It happens that I skipped the video that day). I used that system in a flight I took some days ago and it turned to be really useful !! My passenger first told me he was ok, but it turned out that he was just at a 70% ! That indicated me he was getting some motion sickness, since we were under moderate turbulence. And today I came back and watched the video. It is one of the most interesting and useful videos I have ever seen about general aviation. It is often said that one should learn how to manage passengers and avoid distractions, but I have never seen any other video about this topic, neither with such an amount of tips and analysis that Steve has explained in it. Really interesting and important lesson!!! I'm sure this will multiply the safety of my passengers and myself. THANK YOU!

Flight Chops Haha - sort of... I mean in terms of pure fun the Extra 300 doesn't compromise... but the joke Jared made with me was the the plane is so purpose built for acro that it has no other useful function - Like its a PIA to even ferry it around because it has such small fuel tanks, and minimal space for baggage - it's really made for flying air shows and that's about it.

Kurt Pennuto Nice work, I could watch this all day! Dennis is such a cool cucumber up there, what a joy to have that kind of mentor. How much prep work do you and your crew put in before you even get off the ground? Do you plan out your shots or is it free flowing and all the work is in the editing? Thanks again, I'm glad I found you and can help support your awesome adventure! KYFCS!

Flight Chops Thanks Kurt! The crew and I do a fair bit of prep as far as setting the scenes, rigging cameras (and lighting if needed) and imagining what angles we'll need "on the fly" - so the guys aren't too surprised by the action they need to cover; but then ultimately, whatever happens, happens, and we try to capture it is naturally as we can. And in this case it was a production delay that held up our departure and pushed us into dark for flight 2, so yeah, it's far from seamless :)

Jonathon Solum "A bare bones shoot..."....Blowing Snow! Put it this way sir schteevie, your "bare bones" is 1,000 times better than my full hardest attempt at what someone might vaguely call a production piece. It was nice to see something that reminded me of when I first started watching your videos, when you only had *gasp* one or two cameras! Sometimes it's nice to go back to your roots. But don't get me wrong, I do love the full production shoots though, but these are great also!
