About Jessica Walton

Jessica Walton is the author of Introducing Teddy (Bloomsbury, 2016). In 2017, Jessica completed a Write-ability Fellowship focused on poetry about disability, cancer and pain. Jessica's short story about a queer, disabled teen was published in Meet Me at the Intersection (Fremantle Press, 2018). She recently co-wrote an episode of comedy show Get Krack!n focused on disability, which aired on the ABC in February 2019.

Jess began her patreon to give her the means to make space for writing during the 2017 Write-ability fellowship. Since the fellowship finished, the patreon funds have allowed Jess to do online poetry courses through Writers Victoria, and pay to submit her poems to competitions and journals. Jess had her first poem published in a literary journal in Westerly's DisAbility issue in May 2019.

In June 2019, Jess was awarded a Publishability fellowship from Writers Victoria to work on a collection of poetry / memoir about disability, cancer, chronic pain, and dance, called Crip the Light Fantastic. As part of this fellowship, Jess will undertake a mentorship with poet Andy Jackson. The funds from Jess' patreon will help her pay for childcare while she works on the poetry collection over 2019.

When Jess isn't writing, she's a parent, casual relief teacher, and public speaker. She lives in Pakenham, Victoria, with her wife and two young kids.
