It took a lot longer than I'd planned (due to a huge confluence of different things), but Fullmetal President is finished. It is a very silly little game, and more than anything an excuse to narrate explosions and mess around with surreal Americana. Regardless I hope you have fun with it. It was tremendous fun to make and playtest. One of my friends played Dogg McCool, the White House Dog (named by the First Daughters), and it was all-around amazing. Kyle Shaezer did three pieces of phenomenal artwork for the game, including a fantastic cover design. I don't normally do much in the way of mecha stuff, so his mecha fanboy expertise was instrumental in achieving the right look. In any case, the actual Fullmetal President PDF will be going out to patrons at the $4 level and above momentarily!
Right now I have a pretty ridiculous amount of stuff going on. I'm working on game stuff in various capacities for four or five different publishers, including designing an RPG add-on for Level 99 Games' upcoming Millennium Blades card game. (Which is a really neat game in itself by the way.) I have been getting a lot done over the past few months though, including releasing Mascot-tan and the Ewen's Tables Collection and working on several games that are likely Patreon releases. So, I wanted to give you guys a rundown of what I have cooking.
Raspberry Heaven is a game for heartwarming slice of life stories about ordinary high school girls, in the style of 4-panel manga like Azumanga Daioh and Hidamari Sketch. The game consists of a series of cards (6 character cards, 12 scene cards, and a couple more cards with the rules and other info), and once the artwork is done it'll be pretty much ready. So that'll be a very strong candidate for next month's release. Although I consider the cards the preferred form factor for the game, I'll be making a letter-sized PDF to make it easy to play online or just print out and use.
The new revision of Magical Burst is getting close to being ready to playtest. Stepping away from the game for a while and designing Magical Fury gave me a much-needed fresh perspective, and on paper at least I'm really happy with where it's going. I wanted to get my patrons' feedback on the possibility of doing a sort of Patreon pre-release. Where my normal Patreon releases will mean you get a PDF of a game that will get a commercial release, this would be an advance copy of a game (say 1-2 months before everyone else) that will get a free release. That would let me commission some artwork, and generally make it easier to get things moving towards the eventual commercial version of Magical Burst.
Some ideas sort of coalesced together, so that I'm working on what I've decided to call the "Dangerously Kawaii" trilogy of games. Assassin's Kittens is a simple Powered by the Apocalypse game where you play adorable kittens that assassinate people in the historical setting of your choice. Melancholy Kaiju is a shared narration game that uses playing cards, where you play kaiju who feel kind of sad about things. And last but not least, Tsundere Shark RPG, where one person plays Sempai and everyone else is a Shark-chan trying to get Sempai to notice them. Yeah, it's that weird, but this is me we're talking about. I have first drafts of Assassin's Kittens and Melancholy Kaiju done already.
Some other things in the pipeline:
* AnimeCon, a freeform RPG about people going to an anime convention.
* Fighting Fighters Coliseum is a party card game that builds on the basics of Channel A, only this time around you're various kinds of warriors fighting a boss, and you're putting words on cards together to make a finishing move.
* I've been messing around a bunch with various kinds of card and board games. I'm still really new to designing these kinds of games though, so it's probably going to be a while before I come up with something really worthwhile. I've gotten into the habit of making "cute witches at witch school" the default theme for my board games.
* Angel Project is a reworking of the basic rules of Magical Fury for a thing about cute girls in power suits, inspired by stuff like Galaxy Fraulein Yuna.
* I'm in very early planning for Zero Hour, a reworking of the rules of Magical Burst for a game heavily inspired by the Persona series.
* After seeing Mad Max: Fury Road, I'm contemplating hacking the rules of Fullmetal President into rules for a crazy post-apocalyptic chase story.
