I am building the future by understanding the Earth's past, what we are, how we got here, and where we're going. My approach to robot design is very biomimetic, deriving my heavist influence to structural engineering by studying the skeletal structure of birds, the only surviving lineage of dinosaurs. Modern techniques allow me to take this to an extreme thanks to 3D printing, a technology I have been using to fabricate robots since the year 2000. I can "grow" parts that other techniques cannot replicate, containing elaborate internal structures and honeycombed support, just like bird bones. To me the oldest form of technology, inorganic material that lifeforms create to enhance themselves, is in fact the skeleton itself. Yes, we discover ancient life by the technology they leave behind: fossils.

So what is next? That is my focus, robotics, nature's new upgrade. Since the late 90's I have worked as an artist in the field designing and fabricating parts for cutting-edge research prototypes by request for CMU, MIT, NASA, DARPA, and a handful or start-ups and large companies. Now that the industry is reaching maturity and my years of contract work, my replacement for college, are complete I am embarking on a new adventure: building my own. From one-of-a-kind individuals to short productions of hand-made robots, with some going into higher levels of production, I need all the support I can get. Most robot labs have huge budgets and vast resources, I do not, but I can do a lot with a little, so your support will go a long way to helping me bring these creatures to life. I am an artist, technology just happens to be my medium, my art will look back at you. I also spend a ton of time drawing, researching, and 3D modeling, all of which go a very long way to boosting what I can achieve. The message of my work is also crucial, not just the skill, so it is my job to poke and prod, excite and motivate, predict and remember. To open new doors, push the possibilities, and help guide this new nature down the best possible path for life to continue upon our planet, and beyond.

My posts will be a mixture, from robots I am currently developing, dinosaurs and other extinct species I am studying and reconstructing, to pictures and drawings from my archive dating back to the 1990's. As well as photos of robots I have worked on, and sculptures and models from my years working at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. I will also be creating new material all the time, the more support I get the more I will be able to focus on new work, and keep what I have going alive and on it's way to realization.

Insider: Get to peek behind the curtain, see my rougher sketches, and 3D models in-progress as I develop them. I do not typically like to show unpolished work, but I also know how magical and informative this process is, to see how things evolve first hand. Follow along with regular updates of reconstructed extinct species and robots in development, as well as more frequent and in-depth updates that go much further behind-the-curtain. I will also answer personal questions from those in this tier as best as I can, and even consider suggestions that could effect the course and outcome of my work.

- All previous rewards, plus:
- Access to Insider posts, Q&A, and the ability to influence.

Developer: You're more than just curious, you want in on the action. For fellow Makers, DIY enthusiasts, designers, and the next generation of artists who want to create art that moves, comes to life, and looks back at you. All previous perks, including Insider perks, but this takes it to a new level by giving you the 3D files needed to build select robots from Mechanimal. I will also provide detailed parts lists, sources, and technical notes needed to make things happen, and bring them to life... one of the most surreal and rewarding experiences I know of. It is important to note that not all 3D files are thoroughly complete for everything is in a constant state of flux and evolution, these are works of art more than products, though I will put more complete specimen first and foremost. I primarily use Rhino 3D, files can/will be .3dm, STEP, IGES, and of course .stl for direct printing. Specify which you prefer. I won't release files that I have not successfully printed myself on my own 3D printer.

- All previous rewards, plus:
- Monthly 3D file(s) of one Mechanimal robot or other 3D printable object.
- Parts list of needed components for 3D product/robot when applicable.

Evolver: Any amount at this level or higher is for those who can both afford it and are eager to see things happen sooner rather than later. Developing robots is expensive by default, most endeavors have multi-million dollar budgets, I even know a couple of people running a billion dollar effort by a major automobile manufacturer, I do not need anywhere near that much, though every dollar helps. Building robots cost more than pencils or paint. $72 is where this starts, feel free to add more of course, every dollar will heavily influence how complex things get, the quality of components, and how fast things take shape. You can also make suggestions and present ideas to influence the path of the many creatures currently in development.

- All previous rewards, plus:
- Immense gratitude and knowing your support is making a significant impact on the quality and success rate of my work.
- Listed by name on the Mechanimal website as an Evolver impacting the Mechanimal Tree of Life.

Patron Elite: Here we go, cooking with fire now. I cannot repeat enough how making robots is an expensive endeavor for an artist to pursue. You get that and wish to see significant progress. Anything at this level or more, up to the final tier of Creator, which is limited for practical reasons, is a testament to how serious my work is. So who do I really work for? Nature and Humanity, what I do is out of obligation to apply my talents and expereince where they are needed most and best fit, having the flexibility and freedom of an artist is paramount, it's all about impact and motivating others by showing them not only what is possible, but also what is responible, and wise. To build these new creatures not because we can but because we should, with pre-emptive wisdom and guidance as this new age unfolds.

Creator: You name it, I'll design and build a prototype. Preferably something biomimetic, though I am open to *almost* anything. This needs to occur for a minimum of 6 months for it to realistically get anywhere, typically longer, and yes I will provide one physical version of the robot to you, once it is ready. Keep in mind I used to make much more per month to do this level of work professionally, but I've chosen to no longer focus on contract work, so this is the only solid path now, and with all that is on my plate I have limited this option to 3, tops. I have far too many plans and ongoing anatomies to allow for any one robot to fully dominate my schedule and focus, and again I no longer do contract work, which tends to do exactly that. It is pheasible because the development of your robot will become part of the main-stream at Mechanimal, being part of regular updates in the flow of development, joining the larger family. Due to size restrictions of my 3D printer, which effects all of my current robots, nothing can be larger than a house cat. That doesn't mean I can't make scaled down versions of a larger creature, like a small elephant or a tiny dinosaur for example. You will be creating a new branch on the Mechanimal tree of life, and that is a very big deal indeed.

- All previous rewards, plus:
- You set the focus of one new robot, and will be credited for doing so.
- Be involved in active feedback and direction level decisions.
- Listed by name on the Mechanimal website as a Creator impacting the Mechanimal Tree of Life, specifically alongside the robot you are helping to bring into this world.
- You will receive one full body made of 3D printed parts with the necessary electronics, once the the robot has reached a mature enough level to do so. Again this will take a minimum of 6 months of support at this level, longer depending on how complex the robot is and the level of quality we want to achieve.

Printer material, and more parts, to begin wrapping up my first series of test subjects. I have successfully tested my own prop and ducted fan designs in the past, they were smaller, I need more thrust, and so I must build test rigs to see how far I can take it before I can wrap up the new wings and print them.
