About KOAH

Influences are like travelers one picks up along the way and a broad range inspire Maryland-born singer-songwriter KOAH's music. Led Zeppelin were one of his first influences, as were the Beatles, Jackson Browne, Nirvana, Pink Floyd and The Black Crowes — among others. They all provided the utmost fascination.

Performing at pubs and house parties in the Washington, D.C. suburbs in the late 90's, KOAH's music was a mix of folk, blues and guitar rock. Heavily inspired by Nirvana and the sounds coming out of the Seattle music scene, Koah began drawing on a mix of contemporary guitar and classic southern-rock roots — all the while developing as a vocalist.

Relocating to Southern California in 1999, KOAH began working at Ocean Way Studios in Hollywood where he began seeing up close how professional albums were made. Working primarily for producer Jack Joseph Puig, Koah would also assist a number of producers who came into Ocean Way to record their albums including Jon Brion, Don Was, Rick Rubin and others — assisting dozens of artists including Fiona Apple, No Doubt, Everclear, Taxiride and more.

Working as a guitarist & vocalist across Southern California, KOAH often performed as a duo with bassist Yutaka Sao. KOAH and Sao would eventually tour Japan together in 2006 and 2007.

As a live performer, KOAH's acoustic shows have been compared to Van Morrison and Cat Stevens. Koah says he draws inspiration from many established 80's and 90’s rock artists including Peter Gabriel, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Pearl Jam and others.
