Hart's Theatre Company was founded by Ann Akin. The company was launched to provide young people with a safe place to find their voice and explore their talent.

The team at Hart's are passionate educators and believe in grass roots change. We run drama classes, workshops and summer programmes throughout the year which help to fund some of our work but not all of it. We want to be able to expand our offering, continue to support young people and share vital mental health well-being education.

And that's why we need your help.

We want to be able to help young people be heard and be proud of who they are. For that reason Hart's has developed IT AFFECTS ME: I AM NORMAL? - an initiative to break the taboo that still surrounds discussing mental health. The education initiative is delivered as a workshop for young people aged 11-24 and consists of an interactive talk about mental health, a short film created by Hart's, drama exercises and an information support leaflet for participating students. "Campaigners are currently calling for mental health to be included in the National Curriculum and for support to be given to any young person who needs it" (mindfull.org). We want to be part of that change and get this workshop into as many schools and in front of as many young people as possible. The workshops launched in May 2014 and since then we have worked with hundreds of young people. But we wanted to take it further.

That's why we have created our IT AFFECTS ME: I AM NORMAL mental health art festival . It’s a youth-led festival created to give young people a voice and a chance to realise they are not alone, struggling with mental ill issues is normal, and they don't have to struggle alone. The festival has been designed with young people from NCS: The Challenge and features a speaker and young champion from Time To Change. More information can be found here: http://www.hartstheatrecompany.co.uk/normal-1/

Hart's also holds a Young Writers Festival, spotlighting aspiring writers and giving them an opportunity to showcase their work. We have created a short documentary of the 2016 festival which can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/o64sQNMCcv4
We want to make this an annual event but can only do this with your support.

We need help to continue our work, and as with most artists it comes down to money, which is why we are asking you to become a patron. We have some great rewards to support your artistic journey and hope we can all help each other.

We can't thank you enough for your support!
