Artists of Jazz
In 2012 Artists of Jazz was undertaken to archive, on film, an important oral history. Our sole aim is to preserve the reminiscences of those very talented older musicians whose careers played an integral part in the greatest era in jazz. We are compiling first hand accounts from and about artists we have long admired.
It is America's music. It is American history.
Each interview we compile reveals more about the musicians we know and love, and about the history of jazz.
As of December 2016, we have interviewed over 50 jazz greats. Short selections, drawn from some of these interviews, can be seen on the website HERE.
Artists of Jazz is directed by Robert Wagner and produced by Joan Babchak. Our interviews are conducted in the greater New York area and are shot on a Nikon D800 camera.
Cost of Filming:
One day of filming costs an average of $5,000. That covers the crew (producer, sound recordist, camera operator, grip, PA), transportation, and, of course, the artists.
To be as cost efficient as possible we try to schedule two interviews each shooting day.
Your Contribution and Our Goal:
We count on your support to continue to archive the most valuable period in American jazz history. 100% of your contribution goes toward funding this valuable work.We are in contact with many wonderful musicians that we are anxious to get on film. Without your contribution we would not be able to continue this project with the such urgency.
Our more ambitious goal is to be able to travel to other parts of the country for the many deserving artists not living in the NYC area.
A Partial List of Artists Interviewed:
We truly appreciate your interest in our project and support for the preservation of jazz history.
