How often do you think about where your fashion comes from? Does this cross your mind daily, weekly, or ever? There is no right answer to this question, just an opportunity for critical reflection.

All of the things we use in our daily life came from somewhere. Unfortunately the systems that are currently in place to supply our things to us are founded on unsustainable and unethical practices. When we get thoughtful about the items we use we learn to appreciate them and care for them better. We also start to think about ways to source items that are more ethically made or have less negative impact on our environment.

These small changes add up across a 7+ billion strong population.

While many of our scary environmental issues won't be directly impacted by your decision to buy an organic cotton t-shirt, you can change the world little by little, one wardrobe at a time!

Sustainability in Style is a place for critical thought about our fashion items and our relationships with them. It is the labour of love of Katie Roberts. A write-a-holic who started her career in the fashion world, shimmied over to Environmental Science, studied yoga, and has currently settled on a masters (or possibly soon-to-be PhD) in Sustainability Education.

Founded in 2010 as a series of clothing swaps at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Sustainability in Style has been a place of growth, discovery and fashion related fun for Katie and her ever-growing community of sustainable fashion enthusiasts.

A decision to use the Sustainability in Style e-platform to give back to sustainability education literature through academic studies (most of which will kick off mid year) means that the space cannot feature advertising or promotions. This means that it's creator Katie (mah... who are we kidding, it's me writing this... Hi guys) has to work hard on the side as a research/lab technician to make this space financially viable. It's long hours, late night, and early mornings. While nothing seems like hard work when you love what you do, sustainability isn't sustainable until it's financially sustainable.

While Katie is working on a strategy to make her blog self sustaining to support her plans to go full PhD mid year, she needs your help to get there.

If you can share a little or a lot to support ongoing academic research into educating adults to consume more mindfully Katie will owe you a huge hug.

The world needs sustainable sustainability research in order to reach any long term sustainability aspirations. We can't rely on governmental policy for sustainability because the terms are not long enough for long term futures thinking. Make change here and now!!!!

Avoiding the debt collector!!!!!

I've got my blogging bills coming up (hosting, email, etc) and I normally foot the bill myself. Sadly a hand has got in the way of my footing (sorry... bad joke). Ged's broken wrist has made our budget super tight. So I decided to throw it out there and see if any of you want to throw a dollar or two my way to help fund my ad-free sustainability education space.

I would advertise (because money is important and supporting sustainable brands would be fab) but I've got a huge study that I hope to be launching mid year through the space and ad's will affect my results.

Wanna donate your morning cup-of-coffee fund? I will be OH-SO-GRATEFUL if you do.
