SPEED DRAWING: Iman Shumpert/Cleveland Cavaliers - The Land

Ok, so I admit this post is a bit self-serving, but it's pretty exciting. For the first time in 5 years, the Cleveland Cavaliers are in the NBA Playoff race. This is due in large part to return of one Lebron James. However, the whole team has been on fire since January. We got some killer trades early in the year in the form of Timofey Mozgov from the Nuggets and JR Smith and Iman Shumpert from the flailing New York Knicks. Shump is a very interesting player for a variety of reasons, one of which is his unique 90s throwback high flattop. When I was watching the game a few weeks ago, I got this idea to crave the Cleveland skyline into the top of Shump's hair. I was surprised no one had done that yet. So I drew it and now I am releasing it on Fan Appreciation Day, the last day of the NBA Season for the Cavs and the weekend before we officially start our playoff run. This was a lot of fun to do and it scratches an itch I've had as a newly minted basketball fan here in Cleveland. It's going to be an exciting few weeks, hopefully ending up with a Finals trophy in The Land. (fingers crossed). For all my Patrons, I'll be traveling next week so I am releasing next week's speed drawing early since Patreon does not allow me to schedule posts. I would have released this video on Monday, but I'll be out. So you get it a few days early! Woo hoo! Thanks again for all your support. Go Cavs.

Speed Drawing: Batgirl

This week's speed drawing video is another speed drawing/warm up sketch of a very popular female heroine, Batgirl AKA Barbara Gordon. I have this weird love affair with this character. I love drawing her because of her bright colors (the red hair! The yellow boots! It's all so gorgeous.) So I did a warm up sketch of her recently just to scratch that itch. Immortan Joe/Rat Fink Speed Drawing

Another week, another piece of fan art from Mad Max Fury Road.  This is an homage to not only the movie, but to one of my favorite artists, Ed "Big Daddy" Roth.  He's the artist who does all the Rat Fink funny car art from the 60s and 70s.  Somehow MMFR is sort of like an Ed Roth cartoon come to life.  Loved it and I hope you love this speed drawing process.  Thanks for your support and please spread the word about this Patreon (if you enjoy my art, that is).

The Fantastic Five

So, in case you didn't know (and if you're one of my Patrons, I don't know how you couldn't know), last week was San Diego Comic Con - the year's biggest nerd con.  I was unable to attend this year. However, as in previous years, my artwork was able to go in my stead.  This year, I was able to design the invitation for a prestigious Hollywood Comic Con party. I've attended this party in the past and it is certainly one of the best parties I've been fortune to be invited to. This year, I did a Fantastic Four riff. It was a TON of fun to work on.  Not as fun as actually GOING to the party, but I'm happy to have been included.


For those wondering, elapsed time is around 3 hours on the total image from pencils to finished paint.

Nightcrawler Speed Drawing

A few weeks ago, my friend Craig Worrell challenged me to draw a superhero.  The superhero he chose for me was Nightcrawler, who I happen to love. I've always been fascinated by the Nightcrawler. One of the reasons is that he is one of the few comic book characters to practice religion in an unironic way.  Sure, he's a demon who also happens to be a devout Catholic. That in itself is a gimmick.  But his religion is just part of him.  I find that refreshing.  And I also loved drawing this image of him.  I tried to give the drawing the look of a religious icon.  I don't think I was overly successful with that.  But it was fun to draw him either way.

The Wedding Bards - Speed Drawing

It's August and it's prime wedding season. To commemorate that fact, I'm sharing a speed drawing of an image I created for two geeky lovebirds for their wedding day. Actually, it was a gift FOR the two lovebirds, but all the same, it's a pretty geeky illustration. And now you can watch me draw it in lightning speed!

Speed Ink and Paint: Captain Marvel

I've been wanting to draw Captain Marvel for some time now and felt this would be a good a time as any!  I wish I would have started recording from the pencil stage, but it was an impromptu drawing and I didn't hit record until I was well into the pencils.  In any event, you can watch  me do the ink and paint on one of the most iconic female superheroes we have today.


In September, I'm going to be tinkering with this Patreon to make it more exclusive. I'm brainstorming some ideas and I hope to implement them soon.

Speed Drawing: Bloom County

One of my favorite comic strips has returned in full force this past summer!  Opus, Bill the Cat, Steve Dallas, Binkley, Milo and the whole Bloom County crew has returned for daily strips.  I couldn't be more happier! To commemorate this occasion, I did a piece of fan art of the strip.  I owe a lot to Berke Breathed and Bloomy County. The strip was my informal cartooning instructor as I used to redraw panels and full cartoons growing up. My style has been heavily influenced by Mr. Breathed's style and I felt I had to do it.

Speed Drawing: HellBoy

Happy Monday everyone!  I've got a pretty awesome speed drawing from top to bottom for you today.  It's one of my favorite characters - Hellboy!  I've always loved the look of Mike Mignola's character and I've been wanting to draw my own version for quite some time.  I think this turned out pretty great.  If you think so too, let me know in the comments.

Speed Drawing" Rocket Baby Jesus

This week's Speed Drawing is a little bit different.  I was asked by a client to draw a cartoon based on a three word prompt. Apparently, he has asked other artists to draw the same three word prompt and was collecting the art. The three word prompt was Rocket, Baby and Jesus.  This is my take on those three words which reminds me somewhat of a vintage album cover.  Anyway enjoy the process and please share this Patreon with your friends if you are enjoying my work.
