Deviant Women is a podcast dedicated to uncovering the lives of 'deviant' women from history, fiction, mythology and the contemporary world: those who aren’t afraid to break the rules, to subvert the system, to explore, to seek and to challenge the status quo. We are your hosts, Alicia and Lauren, and we're psyched that you've decided to join us.
We met as PhD students and quickly discovered a shared love for all forms of subversive femininity. From monstrous child-eating lamias, to furious witches and 'hysterical' Victorian mediums, we love thinking about what femininity means in culture, how it is used to repress and restrict, but also how it is devalued and shamed and how it can be celebrated. Deviant Women emerged when we decided to turn our wine-fuelled conversations into something more tangible - a podcast! As a pair of poor post-grads, the support of our listeners means the world to us. We never imagined that we'd reach so many of you, and we want to thank you for tuning in and celebrating our shared love for uncovering the world's most interesting Deviant Women!
Your support will help fund the running of the podcast. We currently record out of Alicia's living room and exploit the free labour of loved ones to keep going. With enough support, we'll be able to fund our audio equipment and running costs, and pay our poor sound guy like decent human beings!
