Hi

If you know me at all, it's probably under the name Karloff, which I often use online. I have written for the Escapist Magazine, Pelgrane Press, Chaosium, Miskatonic River, Pagan Publishing and Atlas Games, among others. You can find my work online at the Escapist, or you can check out my blog Ephemera.

I intend to use this Patreon to publish short stories and RPG material, under GUMSHOE's open license. I'm doing this because a while ago I promised myself I would complete one short story a month for twelve months, and it hardly seems reasonable to say that, and then do nothing with the short stories. If you've come here for RPG material - I'm best known for my work on Trail of Cthulhu - rest assured that there will be some, but not right away.

As you may be aware, the good folks at Pelgrane recently opened up the GUMSHOE system to open license gaming. Naturally, as open license material, whatever I publish here cannot be for any of Pelgrane's established settings, like Bookhounds of London. So don't expect tales of shoggoths and other Mythos entities, but do expect horror scenarios. At the beginning, I'll probably restrict the RPG material to five pages in length, but that may change.

I pledge to publish new material once per month, on the 20th of the month. While I will strive to make sure that each posting is a complete story or RPG scenario, it may be that some of the larger stuff will be broken down into parts. I'll warn you when that happens!

If you want a taste of my fiction, a story can be found online at the Bermudian magazine. If you want to know more about my RPG work, check out the blog link above, or buy any of the material I've had published via Pelgrane. The scenario set aboard the Titanic, Millionaire's Special, is probably a good place to start. That scenario has been reviewed at Reviews from R'lyeh.

The first piece of fiction is being posted because Sarah, of the Plot Points podcast, asked if I could write something about puppies and nice things. This one's about a cat. So I suppose I can write about fuzzy animals ...

Enjoy!
