First of all, thank you for visiting my Patreon page for this project. It already shows me that you care about this utility software for game developers and modders.

I am currently working as technical artist for an indie studio but my way there was paved by making modifications for games. Working on a game that requires normal maps for assets showed me that a lot of talented people who want to mod games have issues with making said normal maps. Thus I created software to ease that task as much as possible.

Modlab is not an image editor. ModLab is a free tool that can generate normal maps in a realtime deferred rendering environment. It was initially created as an asset previewing and mastering tool for the game Wayward Terran Frontier. It lets you generate normal and roughness maps from height maps or just diffuse maps. It can also combine normal maps. All while previewing your work in realtime with dynamic lights.

This is definitely not the first software to do this, but this one is free even for commercial use. It's lightweight for download and it offers unique features, taking normal maps you generate to a new level.

But wait, there's more... this software also contains a tech demo capable of generating dynamic space scenery. I plan to continue with ModLab development with your support. In time, features like this can turn into utilities to generate backgrounds for your space games, 2D as well as 3D. Or maybe the next step is going to be extended ability to generate 3D profiles for your sprites and textures. That is for Decider tier Patrons to decide. I am looking forward to further development.
