Sithrah #2 is finished!

First I just want to thank all of you for your wonderful support! This is very exciting! Okay, so here is the finished and color post. You might notice that Josh Ulrich helped me with the colors too. If you want to see this slightly more animated then check it out on Sithrah.com. Thanks again!

Sithrah #3: Text Revision

So I totally messed up last month when I posted this page and didn't mark it as a paid post and so nobody was charged. I contacted Patreon and they said to just repost it as a paid post. I hope you are all okay with that. So most likely this month there will be 2 paid posts. I'll wait to send the original art for the $10 tier next month. And I might even send two patrons art since I missed this month. :) Some good news is that one of our patrons has been helping me with the text and I think he is pretty smart and so far I am loving his subtile suggestions of how to make things flow better. So instead of just uploading the same post again, I've updated the text to make it read smoother and look better. Tell me what you think. I still plan to make a font specifically for this book but I will be able to see what works best after I finish a few more sections. Thank you so much for all your support! I really think this platform is going to be amazing as it grows. I'll post the inks for post #4 next because I just finished it! :) See you soon! Jason

Jonathan King My 5 cents worth: if you're going to mix speech bubbles and 'prose' type, I think you should contrast the fonts more: make the speech bubble type hand lettered (or a hand lettered font). See, also, perhaps, Posy Simmons' TAMARA DREWE? Otherwise, carry on! ;-)

Kirsty McAllister Yes, that's totally OK - we did agree to pay up to a certain amount each month, after all. I'm liking the text revision. I felt it was a little odd before, but now it flows well. And, in contrast to the previous poster, I like the similarity between fonts. Conflicting advice - just what you need :-)

Sithrah #4 is Finished!

Here is the finished version of the 4th post! This one was a ton of work to figure out in terms of cockpit details, text editing and experimenting more with how it all flows when read. I want to especially thank one of my Patrons, Chad Beninati, who has been helping me with the wording of things and really helping me refine and find new ways to make this comic even better. Thanks Chad! In a few days I'll post this to Sithrah.com and I have plans to add some animated giff's in places too so be sure to check it out there in a few days when it's up. Thanks again for all your support and encouragement! I am continually blown away with everything you are doing to help this project move forward. Thank you thank you thank you! See you soon for some sketches of the next post. :) Jason

Sithrah #5: Finished

Hi Patrons! Here is the finished update for post number 5. I know it's a little shorter than the thumbnails indicated but this turns out to be 4 pages worth of content when I put it into book form. The last update had about 8 pages of content! CRAZY! Yeah. I hope you forgive me for not having everything finished that I showed in the sketched version. Also, here is a link to the upcoming video Q&A session which will be on Tuesday at 7PM (PST): https://plus.google.com/events/c10vcfgdobkr71u6lg5cbk35jls?authkey=CIyBgd-e69zbMQ I'll send out an official invitation directly to everyone in the $5 and up pledge levels. Thanks again for all your support and I can't wait to see where this all goes! By the way, if you could please share this with everyone in the universe then I would greatly appreciate it. :) Talk soon, Jason

Here we go! I have finally put in the time to finish the colors on this sequence. It might seem kinda short but it ends up being 4 pages in the book version. Now I can start posting thumbnails and sketches for the next part. :) I have the next two posts already inked so you should be seeing another finished post here by the end of the month or early next month. I also have a surprise to show you all tomorrow. Better yet, I will be giving one of "this surprise" away to a random Patron too! ;) See you all tomorrow! Jason

Joseph DR Hopefully they know how to skydive! Also, I'm anxious to see what hit the plane. Another fantastic update, Jason! I love seeing this in the vertical layout you have here. I'm curious as to how it'll look in book form.

Sithrah #7: Finished

Special thanks to Josh Ulrich for helping me do coloring again and Chad Beninati for helping me with the wording and ideas for text. For those who have been following my train of thought lately, I'm going through a change on how I plan out these pages moving forward. I'll be designing the pages as spreads for the book first and then I'll convert it to be viewed on the website second. I will most likely end up posting stuff here in the spread format like I did with reMIND. I'll probably break it down to smaller chunks for Sithrah.com so I can give more frequent updates there. So in this transition I want to just make sure that you put in a monthly maximum on this patreon page so you don't get charged more than you want when/if I start posting more that once or twice a month. In a perfect world, I'd like to be finishing a spread every week now that Sithrah is picking up steam. I guess this means I'll need to update my Patreon video now too. So again, if you only want to pay for a maximum of 1 or 2 or 3 paid posts a month then make sure to set your maximum monthly pledge limit to reflect that. Thanks again for a wonderful month of support guys! And girls! And remember that there is a video hangout tomorrow (Monday) for the $5 tier and up. Love you all! Jason

Sithrah #8: Finished

Here we are! The next part is finished. This one took me a little longer because I took a little more than a week off from working on Sithrah this month to make room for some other work. But it's finally finished and I love how this turned out finally. This one has been giving me trouble in spread format too but I think I have it worked out. Luckily this is the last sequence that I planned in this long format so it should be smoother from now on. Also, the text is still temp. I need to send this to Chad still even though I put his name in the credits already. He has been a big help in refining the text and prose sections as I move forward. If you see any spelling or grammar errors then it's not his fault. Well, this is finally starting to get to the beginning of the real story. I have a few more sequences before we are finally introduced to... Sithrah! :) See you soon and thank you so much for your continued support! Jason

This ended up converting easily from spreads to a long layout so I just went ahead and made it scrolling for fun. I gotta give Josh Ulrich big time credit for this update because I didn't really have to touch the colors at all. Thanks a ton Josh! I love how this turned out. Also, I wrote the text last minute even though I knew I wanted to put something on this page. I'm not sure if it works or flows or what. I'd love your thoughts on it all. Plus if you see any spelling problems then chime in! :) Thanks again for all your support on this project. Hopefully lots of you will show up for the video hangout tonight. See you soon! Jason

Sithrah #11: Finished (4 pages)

These pages took WAY to long to color. Especially the last spread because I kept changing the panels on the right. I must have tried 4 different coloring passes before redrawing it and then about 2 coloring passes before I finally got it. The lightning was completely last minute too. I painted it in and it worked so I left it. I'm super happy with how these turned out. The text is still temporary too. Also I still haven't decided if I should spell her name Vonna or Vana. What do you guys think? I'm favoring Vana because I like the way it looks and it make sense being it's short for Nir-vana. Anyway, thanks again for all your support! See you soon! Jason

Jason Brubaker

October 16, 2014 19:06:44

Peter Westlake Stick with Vonna, I think, because we're used to it now and it's a plausible shortening.

October 17, 2014 14:30:03 · Reply

Martin Brubaker I agree with Peter. Vana for some reason seems forced now that we are used to Vonna.

October 17, 2014 20:36:46 · Reply

Josh I think I like Vonna more than Vana. Nicknames that are from shortening names aren't always spelled exactly how they would appear. Awesome pages, love the coloring. The rain seems almost like you had this painted then scratched off the paint to make it look like rain.
