About

My name is Lorna Smithers and I am a poet, author, awenydd, Brythonic polytheist, and devotee of Gwyn ap Nudd. ‘Peneverdant’ is the name of my home town of Penwortham in the Doomsday Book. It has been translated as ‘The Green Hill on the Water’. From here I share poems for the land and myths for the old gods of Britain.

I have published three books: Enchanting the Shadowlands, The Broken Cauldron, and Gatherer of Souls. My work has appeared in magazines such as The Dawntreader, Eternal Haunted Summer, and Heroic Fantasy Quarterly. I am a co-founder of Awen ac Awenydd. I give talks and workshops and perform poetry and am a committee member of Damson Poets.

I have run a Friends group in Greencroft Valley since 2012 and am volunteering with the Lancashire Wildlife Trust as a way into paid work in conservation. I’m learning to grow small green things and dream of leading a sustainable semi-monastic life.

By becoming my patron you will be supporting my regular posts on my blog 'From Peneverdant' where I write poems, stories, and articles about my local landscape, Brythonic mythology, and my journey as an awenydd and Brythonic polytheist striving to structure my life around prayer and work.

Additionally you will be helping to buy me the time to write my next books. I am currently working on a collection of poems and short stories called 'The Dwellers in the Water Country' based around the prehistoric people who inhabited the wetlands of Lancashire. I am also exploring Annwn, the Brythonic Otherworld, and sharing my findings, which I hope to gather into a book called 'Porth Annwn' 'Door of the Otherworld'.
