old_MK Well, I was familiar with the basic fact, as evidenced by what your car's windshield looks like after it's been rained on & it dries, but I surely didn't know all the intimate details about water molecules and water clusters. Very interesting! You guys are awesome!

Cristina Quiroz Hello. I would like you to start doing videos in Spanish again in your YouTube's "Minuto de la Tierra" channel, it would be great. Please, think about it. Greetings from Mexico!

old_MK And, um, WHY would we spend a dime (even if that's all it took) to save a louse?! Lice are a nasty, parasitic species that probably spreads disease... As for the panda........that IS a toughie. They ARE awfully cute, but they're so darned sensitive and "niche-y" that one wonders if it's worth it. Hate to say it, but I asked the same question about 10 years ago. Pandas are so sensitive that even if we weren't screwing up the planet, they might still be in trouble... * sigh * It's a tough question...

Michael Kaufman Great video. I will never cancel my Patron support as long as you continue to support worthy causes like the demise of the panda. If you want to start a campaign to actually go out and actively drive them instinct, count me in for that as well.

MinuteEarth Daniel - Thanks for your questions. My brother Henry makes MinutePhysics by himself (impressive), whereas we have a whole team of people making MinuteEarth (including me and Henry). So, yeah, MinuteEarth needs support more than MinutePhysics. We cover a range of topics that center around humans and the environment, and how humans interact with the environment, from a scientific perspective. Let me know if you have any other questions! Alex, on behalf of the team

Daniel Carrera Hi Alex, Thanks. Then I will focus my pledge on MinuteEarth. But if MinutePhysics is just Henry, who is making the Spanish translations? One of the things that grabbed my attention about MinuteEarth and MinutePhysics is that they are bilingual, so presumably they could reach a wider audience. Can you clarify this for me? Cheers, Daniel.

MinuteEarth Daniel - No worries. Our animator Ever was translating MinuteEarth and MinutePhysics into Spanish, but now he's too busy animating, so for the time being we've created an option where anyone who wants to can translate the subtitles into Spanish and other languages at: minuteearth.subtitl.us . Austine Wallace I wonder if there are possibilities of extracting antibodies against anthrax and botulinum from scavengers to create new vaccines.

Arturo Gutierrez excellent video! and I loved how happy the moon looks :)

Ken Blackman Got it. So most moons in our solar system are tidally locked. None (?) of the planets are tidally locked with the sun. Are they headed that way, for the same reason? When will that happen?
March 2, 2015 20:01:50 · Reply
MinuteEarth The strength of tidal forces goes down as 1/r^3, so it gets much weaker the farther you are. That's why the moon is the major tidal influence on earth, even though the overall force of the sun's gravity on us is WAY bigger. Earth's tidal locking with the sun is predicted to take much longer than it will take for the sun to die (or something like that)

old_MK Excellent! However, if I have to look like a NMR in order to live longer, then never mind! No, seriously, it's good research to maybe help some people with certain medical conditions, I suppose, or perhaps to help us to look and feel younger and better while we're here, but I certainly DON'T want to live forever. 70 - 100 years is plenty for me, thank you!
