July 2015 Update

I entered into a partnership with JForce Games to make a game together. I'm taking care of programming, and they're handling art, sound, and distribution. We're co-designing the game, and I'm able to reuse most of my previous work. I'm not going to say exactly what the project is, but it's similar to what I was working on before.


I don't have anything playable for this month because I've mainly been working on technical stuff, like online multiplayer. We're hoping to get on Steam Early Access in the near future, but I'll still put out early builds for patrons before that.

Shifting to development of an original game

It's very important that patrons read this because I changed what I am doing. Instead of making a fan game, I decided to convert it to an original game. The concept is still the same, but it's no longer using actual assets from the games. You should read over the rewards because I changed them. I also changed the goals just so that I can focus on the game. This does mean that progress will be slower since I have to create everything, but I feel that it's worth it.


I'm very open to feedback on this so let me know your thoughts. Also, don't feel bad about lowering the amount you're pledging. Thanks!

William Houle It looks fantastic! I am one of the biggest super mario crossover fans out there (I think) and I really would like to share it with the world. only problem is that I don't have the necessary equipment to record videos. This game you're making looks absolutely fantastic! I donated 3$ per month to get early access, but my funds are limited. Good luck making an awesome game ;) I'm still playing smc to this day and it would blow my mind if smc had an eshop release like avgn adventure (I can dream, right?)...

Bryan What's the game written in? I've been thinking, I have a Raspberry Pi built as a gaming machine, and it seems to me that this game (and Super Mario Crossover) would have high value if it could be compiled to run against SDL. SMBC is a Flash game, so I assume it's written using Adobe Flash or FlashDevelop. I'd be able to port SMBC to C++/SDL if I had the sources, and would happily embark on the endeavor. I don't know how you feel about open-sourcing SMBC; if you're averse, I'd sign whatever you'd like to keep it under wraps. That said, it may that open sourcing SMBC would get it played and remixed in a lot of places, and get better visibility for your current projects.

Exploding Rabbit It's being written in Unity. Porting the flash version of SMBC to anything would be way too much work. I'm writing a platformer engine in Unity that is moddable, and I was thinking of remaking SMBC as a mod for it. I'll probably put out a video soon explaining this. Pretty cool stuff.
