A fun video of me in a Cape Town Studio

FIRST: WELCOME to 21 new Nateives this month, you are all the most magical human being I could ever imagine knowing, thank you for your incredibly generous souls! Loooooove!


Ok, so, I know I already shared a creation this month, but I'm getting SO excited for the upcoming music video of my song It's The Little Things that I just had to share this sneak preview. Also, I just wanted to make something to welcome all the newbies on here, cos I'm all happy and tingly about you being so epic :D!


Many of you have already downloaded the final studio version of this tune. If you haven't, it's part of the 'all nate's songs' bundle which you get when you sign up. If you missed that, the link is in this post too: https://www.patreon.com/posts/2380880.


Anyway, this version has a slightly different feel, as it's just the acoustic track with me in the studio in Cape Town! I hope you enjoy it...the actual music video is gonna be SO GOOD!


In other news, I feel my heart exploding with the desire to say a HUGE thank you to all of you. I was going back through some old creations on here, and I appreciate so much how engaged you are with my art. So many beautiful comments, shares, likes and just general loveliness, it makes my heart sing to know you all. THANK YOU! AAAAAAAAHHHH!!!! Ok, moving on...

July Creation! Stunning harmonies with Jessica :)

While the lovely Jessica Allossery was visiting London, we didn't just do ONE song, no no no, we did TWOOOO! And so, here for you, first in the world, is the other song we did. I'll be sharing it publicly tomorrow, but cos you're the bestest in the whole world, you get it first :).

VIDEO: 'Empty' by Ray LaMontagne (with Jessica Allossery)

Almost a year ago, the lovely Jessica Allossery got in touch with me after having found my page on Patreon. She's a Canadian songstress and we've become great friends (she's also a creator on Patreon, ain't this community delightful)! 

As fate would have it, Jessica was recently flown to Europe for musical shenanigans, and she came and spent a week in London! In that time we had some lovely adventures and recorded TWO video covers. 

So, without further ado, please enjoy the first, my choice of a song called 'Empty', by Ray LaMontagne! This is one of my ALL-TIME favourite songs, so it's a huge honour to cover it, especially with someone as delightful as Jessica. See if you agree :).

ALSO, I am officially making vlogs (video blogs) on youtube! I've created several already, using my new camera (thanks again everyone), and you can follow my adventures via youtube, so subscribe there if ya dig the vibe: http://bit.ly/troubadour-vlog.

Wendy S Herdman Really lovely alchemy happening with your voices here, though I wish we'd been able to hear Jessica more consistently. On her solo sections she was simply too soft to hear against the volume of the guitar.

Wendy S Herdman My mid-tone hearing loss doesn't help either, some voices fall right in my worst range and I suspect that was part of the problem. You've a beautiful expressive voice, Jessica, so I really wanted to hear it better. Nate-good call. Recently got some new headphones, tweaked to my specific needs, and they helped quite a bit. :)

Hey everyone! SO, I've confirmed my first show back in London, which is so exciting! Event is here: https://tigmus.com/shows/94. I know the evening will be filmed, which is SO GREAT, cos then I can share it with you after. I'm currently also finding out if I can stream the night to you live online, which would be even way betterer;)! A very special song with a best friend

My best friend Heyn and I began playing guitar together when we were 14. We co-wrote our first few songs and were inseparable for many years. Life, as it sometimes does, pulled us in different directions, although we remain great friends. 


The last song we wrote together was way back in 2009, when we were sharing a house in Kalk Bay, Cape Town (along with my lovely sister Lucinda).


Heyn came to me with these beautiful chords and I helped fill it out a bit more and added the lyrics, which is really about our friendship. Two friends wandering through life, supporting one another, walking away and walking back together again. 


I stayed with Heyn for a few months in Cape Town this year, and was honoured to have him join me on stage to play this song at my last show! We may have grown into very different people, but he'll always be one of my favourite people and best friends.

This world is wild :D. I have been invited to be a guest lecturer at the SAE Institute in London, on 16 June. Huge news over here, we just passed 200 patrons, as of yesterday! You are all AMAZING!


EPIC UPDATE: many of you just received direct invites to join the secret Nateives group on 'Slack', which is an epic messaging/community platform.

Laura Jolly Awesome! Looking forward to trying it out. :) I've had some pledge problems too, same payment method I've always used but the past three months there have been declines no matter what card I use, I had to switch all mine over to Paypal. It just takes a bit of time to sort it all out unfortunately.

I've got this crazyfun idea to play for you live in UK and Europe...and I can only make it happen with your help!

Ok, here's what's going down! I'm flying back to London on 07 June, and I have about two months available for playing house concerts and other shows in UK and Europe! I WANT TO PLAY YOU MUSIC LIVE!!! Seriously, the best thing I can imagine in the whole world ever would be to meet as many of you as possible and play music for you, your friends and families, in your homes/libraries/yoga studios/wherever! MAGICAL HUGS IN REAL LIFE!!! Ok, calming down. I'm opening this wide up and am not at all sure how it's gonna work, but I think with your assistance we can totally make something epic and amazing...and learn a whole bunch along the way. T-Shirts designed by YOU (if you want)

How would you like Nate Maingard t-shirts designed by you or your fellow Nateives? T-shirts have been on my mind for a long time, along with other merchandise. It's just never come together due to the logistics of cost of printing and design...and then recently both Beatrice and Samantha mentioned they'd love t-shirts, plus I found a website that allows print on demand t-shirts, so I don't have to fork out hundreds of pounds on loads of t-shirts! The stars have aligned! SO, here's the idea: Many of you are super visually creative and I'd be the happiest guy ever to have your designs on t-shirts! Some things I think which could be cool: - Illustrations based on songs - Lyrics, or parts of lyrics - Comic strips - 'Nateives Tribe' styled artwork/banner/logo/motto/family crest - photos of me/you/us interestingly edited into designs - whatever your imagination wishes I'm thinking it'd be fun if you share your designs with me, then I'll share them here on Patreon and the ones with the most yes votes will end up on the t-shirts! We can even add/change designs every few months! WHAT DO YOU THINK!??? Click 'check it out' below to leave your feedback in the comments! Things to know for designers: 1. the t-shirts will be white, so design with that in mind. 2. the design must fit into a specific area (3508px wide x 4961px high). 3. Make sure you scan your design in HIGH resolution, or take HIGH quality -very clear- photos so that the design looks great when printed. If designing on a computer, make sure it's CMYK, in JPG format and in 300 DPI. 4. I think we should have 'Nate Maingard' somewhere in every design to help spread the word (open to disagreement here, as always). I can always add this to your image later if you are ok with that :). Shay Castro If only I was able to put into 'paper' the idea in my head.... Basically, I see Nates charms and hat - the wide brim one - worn by a coyote on the bottom right and then across the chest is artistically written '<<...The Little Things...>>' and then his signature right underneath. And that's it!! Simple, yet very much about Nate and his music. At least to me. =/

Shay Castro Your charms like the bobbles in your hair or your wrist bracelets / bands. The scarfs or a necklaces you wear....anklets if you wear them, etc. Depending on what is easiest for the artist them self, since you have different items that i've seen so far. But yes, a cartoon style would be really cute!! But not too much detail I would think. Simple lines and shading. In these ideas, I wish I could draw!! Arg.... But what do you think of that idea? Hopefully it's not too vague...

Shay Castro That's so cute, I like it!!! I think I saw something of her work in an earlier post here or on twitter, and I like that idea of her cartoon character of you. Its playful, artistic and with the hat and a charm or two I think it'd work perfectly. Yes, definitely would work!!
