A Jazz / Beatbox Cover of "Radioactive"

Hey all!  Greetings from Chicago!!  We've got a new video out, and this one REALLY combines old and new: specifically, 1940s jazz and beatboxing.   Blake Lewis possesses the rare gift of being an amazing singer as well as a championship winning beatboxer, and he puts both skills to use in this transformation of Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive."  All the sounds you hear from him were recorded live with no overdubs.

Emmelina Audigier Love it! Love it! Love it!. I always suspected that Scott arranging an 'Imagine Dragons' song would be amazing but it's nice to have proof. I had imagined a totally different song of their 'Night Visions' album, but this was just too good for words. I don't know if it was me shouting their name out in Lyon that gave you the idea for this one but if so, I'm so happy now.

A Vintage Version of "Creep" with Haley Reinhart

Hey all! If you caught our European tour, you know that one of the highlights of our recent European tour was Haley Reinhart's masterful interpretation of our vintage arrangement of Radiohead's "Creep" (originally performed on my youtube channel by the amazing Karen Marie). It's very rare that I record multiple versions of a song, but Haley's take on it was so fresh that I decided to record a version with her on our day off in Zurich, Switzerland. This has always been a favorite of mine to play - in fact, a recorded a piano mashup combining this song with Rihanna's "We Found Love" on my "Mashups By Candlelight" album a few years back (title? "We Found Love in a Creepy Place," of course). Vocally, it's a tour de force, and Haley really knows how to tell a story- alternating between soft, sweet tones and powerful, growled tones. Her natural talent and respect for the traditions of jazz, blues, and rock alike have given her the ability to infuse melodies with a wide palette of colors. She's truly a one of a kind talent. Thank you all SO much for your continued support, as we gear up for a full North American tour! We've just added May 4th in Portsmouth, NH, so hopefully we'll get to meet some New Englanders on this tour, too. Until then, I'm enjoying a little bit of rest...although, I recorded 2 new videos just yesterday, so not TOO much rest! As always, I've attached the .mp3 and a high quality .wav. Enjoy! -Scott

"Poison" as "Old Jack Swing"

Hey all! Back in the good ol' USA, and back to work making new videos! Whew!! Our European tour was an amazing time, and it was especially thrilling to meet so many patrons that helped make it possible to get us over to Europe. I'm already missing the familiar European brands that have grown so near and dear to us, such a Carrefour and Costa. I am, however, excited to begin our first major North American tour this Spring! Anyway, here's this week's video, featuring the incredible talent that is Shoshana Bean (and her dog, Mimi). We both have a nostalgic appreciation for the '90s hit, "Poison" by Bell Biv Devoe, so we thought it'd be fitting to remake it a throwback soul twist. To do this, we brought in Erin and Belinda, both excellent soul singers, and added the appropriately named Todd McCool on guitar, for some "Tainted Love" style strumming. As is often the case with remaking '90s jams, we faced the conundrum of translating a couple of rap verses into earlier musical styles; fortunately, Shoshana is quite adept at doing this, and was able to make the phrasing fit quite nicely. Oh, and speaking of Shoshana- as always, she again proved why she's one of the best vocalists in the world; every note was pitch perfect, and this was only the second take. "Gangsta's Paradise," 1920s Style

Hey all, Greetings from Luxembourg!! While I have the wifi, I wanted to share with you this week's PMJ video, featuring the always amazing Robyn Adele Anderson on vocals: Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise," 1920s style. In other words, the way Al Capone would've heard it. Since the only melodic material in the song is the hook (which Coolio borrowed from Stevie Wonder's "Pasttime Paradise"), I wrote a 1920's Duke Ellington style chart and Robyn came up with a melody to fit the words. I then brought in our talented horn player friends to give a bit of that Ellington flair: Mike Cottone on growl-y trumpet, Lemar Guillary on trombone, and Jacob Scesney on clarinet. The bridge ties in a little bit of No Doubt's "Bathwater," too, making the final product a pretty cool pastiche of styles. Thank you all SO much for your support!! Our US tour is selling well, and we can't wait to trek across the country to bring our vintage party to all of you this Spring. A Motown Version of "The Heart Wants What It Wants"

Greetings from Oslo, Norway! We just crossed the halfway mark of our European tour, and we're excited to hit some new parts of Europe, as well as see some old friends. I'm hoping to see a bit of Oslo today- particularly the park with all the sculptures- but first, I wanted to share a new video! Lara Johnston has been performing with us at our Postmodern Nights residency in LA, and has dazzled audiences with her big, soulful voice. It's no wonder that she comes from a musical family- her dad, Tom, was the principal songwriter for the Doobie Brothers. Before leaving for tour, we recorded this version of Selena Gomez' "The Heart Wants What It Wants" with her and our friend, sax man Jacob Scesney. The setup for Jacob's solo is especially entertaining- we actually delayed the shoot an hour to track down a store that had a heart shaped balloon! Thank you all SO much for your continued support!
