Hi all! Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I'd like to tell you a bit about myself. I'm a creative writer currently studying in the MFA program at San Diego State University. I dabble in many forms of writing, but my corazón is primarily that of a poeta.

I've had writing shared through various platforms like Tinderbox Poetry, Madwoman Etc, Cosmonauts Avenue, New South Online and such. My chapbook and full-length manuscripts have received finalist recognition from Tupelo Press, Hyacinth Girl Press, and most recently with the Andrés Montoya Poetry Prize from Letras Latinas.

I write because it helps me conocer the world further and connect with it, as I'm sure is the case with many writers.

So why am I on Patreon? As an emerging poet, I'm still trying to make my way and much of it requires work that is unpaid. In addition to my studies, soy maestra in creative writing, soy mama, and I'm driven as hell, so I'm often doing way too much because I love so many aspects of the writerly mundo. My jobs provide me with little beyond basic necessities however.

This summer I was accepted to attend the Tin House Summer Workshop, after being waitlisted last year. WOOT! And I'll be working with the amazing poet Danez Smith. I think they'll be a great catalyst for my writing, and the workshop as a whole will give me a new experience and a way to grow as a professional.

If you register for my Patreon, I'll basically be offering a variety of monthly goodies in the form of creative writing lessons with free online material, exercises, my own creative goodies, and any other things I can think to throw in to show my gratitude and share my love of poesias/other writings. I'll probably throw in some digital literature goodies too as that is also my miel. I'm open to suggestions on things you'd like to receive as supporters as well!

I appreciate any support y'all can provide, and if a patreon monthly subscription ain't your thing, but you wanna give another way, you can also one-time Venmo me to the name @Brujerias (the name of my twine game).

If you'd like to take a look at some of poetry and prose, you can visit my website:

For the time being I'll share a short piece that was recently published with Planned Parenthood as part of a folio for the Roe V Wade anniversary:

War Paint

Clubs blast scratched punk.
We shrug on torn fishnets. After all,
A tear is fashion and sometimes
holes say more about who we are
than all the fabric that remains.
My hermanas don hoops and flannel,
paint labios red to prepare
for polaroids and sweaty brick
wall fucking, or maybe because
we know any snapshot could be
on a poster across town, or
a mugshot in a file, or a form of
evidence post-mortem.

I appreciate you taking precious reading time to look into my project.
Tiers
Generative Writing Exercise
$5 or more per month 0 patrons
Don't want to do the full $10? Are you also a struggling writer, but are willing to give up a coffee for me??? I'll send you a generative poetry prompt.
Creative Writing Lesson and Associated Exercise
$10 or more per month 0 patrons
You'll receive a monthly textual lecture of a piece of creative writing found online, likely from a literary journal I dig. I'll break down some of the devices I noticed in the work, along with how they are working, and suggestions on how to incorporate them in your own writing while still retaining autonomy. I'll then give an exercise that builds off these ideas.
New Poem!
$25 or more per month 0 patrons
$25 is a kick ass commitment in my eyes (that's like 5 Dark Horse Coffees) so I'll send you a new poem monthly that is a w.i.p. or will only be found in my full length.
Goals
$0 of $100 per month
If I get to $100 a month I'll post a wine fueled video of myself gushing over how supported I feel/ maybe reading a poem?
