Welcome, friend.

I'm a wearer of many hats, both proverbial and fashionable. I've been making strange art and writing melancholy songs for well over two decades. While you might know me from one or the other of these creative outlets, they’re both very much intertwined. I've reached a point in my journey where photography is my main focus (I know, terrible pun).

If you aren't familiar with my photography, have a peek at my website or my Instagram page. I work alone, with a Nikon DSLR and a remote, and using only myself as a model. Your monthly pledges will go towards supplies and props to help me build more elaborate sets and make my most ambitious visions come to life.

In 2019, I launched four ongoing series of self-portraits named after song titles from my catalogue.

  • She Danced Her Spell; This series celebrates my witchy garden, in trilogies. As of September, this is my main series. I aim to complete as many installments as I can before the frost comes, then resume next spring.
  • Tooth and Bone; Another collection of trilogies showcasing my lyrics and my ethically sourced skull collection. I’ve completed one installment, and will return to it once I'm done dancing my spells for the season.
  • Pale Ghosts of Her: Manifestations of Grief and Healing; A collection of three-part visual stories that are a result of me processing several recent losses. I’ve completed six installments to date, and am taking a breather while I continue to mourn in private.
  • Queens of Desolation; Individual portraits of 13 decaying sorceresses in their places of power. I’ve completed four so far, and have grand plans for the rest.

Asking for help is NOT easy for me; I’m used to being a one-woman-army in all of my creative endeavours. But, well, this way of doing things is no longer financially sustainable for me.

I believe in my talent and in all the things that I’ve yet to create, and if you do to, I’m grateful for every dollar you’re able to contribute. If you can’t help financially, you can always help to promote my work by sharing the link to my Patreon page. In either case, you’ll receive my eternal gratitude in exchange.

Thank you for your support.
🖤 Vanessa

p.s. I've taken to referring to my Patrons as my Patreon Patronussesssssss. Because, who doesn't love a good Harry Potter reference. 🧙
