Without you, I wouldn't be where I was right now, living and sitting precisely 2 metres below sea-level in Noord- Holland. Thank you for helping me to keep my feet dry and protected, you're a pretty cool and good looking lifesaver. Thank you for the support: Bedankt!

About Visiting The Dutch Countryside

I (Manon) started my The Netherlands travel blog Visiting The Dutch Countryside for one simple reason: To help people explore The Netherlands beyond the crowds. As a born and raised Dutch woman from a tiny countryside village, I am always surprised by how busy a city as Amsterdam is.

Amsterdam is a city that was almost solely promoted by a tourism board for the past 25-30 years, which is the main reason why it gets 22 million visitors each year (on a city of not even 1 million people). This in itself is not sustainable. Nowadays the surroundings of Lisse (for tulips) and the town of Giethoorn are headed in the same unsustainable direction.

As I was searching for a topic to write my thesis for my Bachelor of Arts, I found an article by a Dutch news site on how the tourism distribution was absolutely horrible in The Netherlands and decided to create a website (and more) to help visitors see more of this beautiful country than one over visited city.

I am not against visiting Amsterdam, as it is truly a beautiful city - and popular for a reason. But, there's more to The Netherlands than Amsterdam. There are tons of fortified cities, picturesque farm villages, colourful tulip fields (that you should never enter!), medieval castles, stunning nature reserves, incredible islands - and so much more.

Now, a few years later, I've helped hundreds of thousands of people with exploring The Netherlands beyond the crowds and have helped bring revenue to many small, local businesses. And, it is something I will continue to do so with your incredible help, so thank you for your incredible support.

Here you will find exclusive Patreon-only posts, have voting power on my next content, have early access to my Youtube videos, and so much more. Thank you again for your support!
