HELLO! I'm Jess O'Brien, I used to be a video producer at Giant Bomb! But before that, I was just hustlin' around on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/voidburger">Youtube</a> and <a href="https://www.twitch.tv/voidburger">Twitch</a> with a modest gang of very cool likers-of-my-stuff (AKA, &quot;fans&quot;) helping me along the way via this Patreon. And hey! It worked out! I was sustainable enough to keep doing what I was doing, and it eventually got the attention from something that was a huge deal for me: Giant Bomb! It was an awesome job with supremely excellent people. Unfortunately, my time there was short, as I was one of the many that was hit by corporate layoffs unrelated to my performance or achievements. But wow, what an adventure! :') I'm so grateful to have had it! And I couldn't have done it without the folks who liked me enough to throw me a couple bucks here and there on Patreon to support my work! It's hard to express how fucking awesome that is and how lucky I am to have attracted such cool people &lt;3 NOW WHAT, THO? This is a very fresh career switcheroo (I'm writing this less than a week after the layoff), so I haven't made any solid plans for exactly what I'm gonna do next. But for the time being, the tentative plan is: - Get back to streamin' and maintaining a community on Discord! I missed it! - Make a video essay or two? - Do some contract video production work here and there, where offered? - Guest on some podcasts maybe? - Keep my options open, see what happens! - Never work for a big corporation ever again, if I can possibly help it, haha I'd be honored if you'd join me for the ride, whether it's financially, or following my streams and vids, or drawing fanart... whatever! It all rules :) And as has always been my policy: please, please, please DO NOT give me any money that is better spent on your own health and safety. If you're having a hard time making ends meet, I don't want your money! I want you to be safe and healthy, you silly shit! Also, I have a Zero Guilt Policy about folks having to dip out of supporting the Patreon -- ESPECIALLY if it's a &quot;can't afford it now&quot; thing. It's been an immeasurable boon that directly helped me land a dream job in a field I care way too much about. Patreon Dreams do come true?? To ME??? I'm not shutting down the Patreon, but I'm definitely shutting down all the related perks, because the Real Job has taken away any time I had to fulfill those. This is a new and very cool chapter of my life and career (oh god, it's a &quot;career&quot; now, isn't it?). A chapter I almost certainly wouldn't have been embarking on without the support of people using this site to keep me afloat &lt;3 My gratefulness is deep as hell, and I consider myself insanely lucky to have attracted such kind fans. Figured I'd keep it up as a fun lookback on how this all started :')  ____________________________________________________________________ I'm VoidBurger. I've been making Let's Plays (gaming videos with commentary on top!) since 2009. During that 5-year span before starting this Patreon, I'd probably made about $450 total from those videos. Less than $100 per year! That sucks! But, thanks to the support of my fans, I've been able to improve my videos SO much over the years, and work on them without the nagging guilt about it not &quot;being a real job!&quot; That's been a huge weight off my shoulders and I'm so very thankful for that :') This has enabled me to put tons of effort into my Let's Plays and supplemental videos, which has recently opened the door to me making video essays, after many years of not being sure if I had the chops! My Patreon tiers have been restructured to include potential video essay content as of Fall 2020, and I'm really excited about future projects like this! I'm still gonna do gaming streams and Let's Plays too, so don't worry! I sincerely don't want anyone to give me any money they're not comfortable parting ways with! If you have rent to pay, bills to catch up on, debts weighing you down, please take care of yourself first! Times are tough, and it'd break my heart if you prioritized ME over your own well-being, so please don't do that! &lt;3 But if you're a fan who has some spare bucks and wants to pay me back for many years of content, then hell yeah!
