About Teni Wada

Question: When you think of J-beauty, or Japanese beauty products, do you also think of clean, green, and natural skincare?

I'm Teni Wada, beauty brand consultant  and curator of the Tokyo lifestyle and beauty blog, The Wagamama Diaries, and I'm here to change the way you think about J-beauty.

Though I blog about (my love of) Japanese cosmetics, skincare is more than the products you use. A good skincare routine also nourishes the skin from within through lifestyle changes.

I believe in "eating for beauty" and the power of plant-based skincare. Since June 2020, I have been working on a green skincare line formulated on the principles of J-beauty. What's more, my products will be made in my Tokyo neighborhood using locally grown produce. The proceeds will also go towards community outreach programs.

My Business Plan

Starting a J-beauty company seems like a logical progression for someone passionate about skincare. However, this isn't some off-the-cuff idea. Armed with just an idea --  “green” skincare that supports local industries -- I did market research, a three-year business plan, and even a mood board as part of an entry for my city’s 16th annual business plan contest in July 2020. To my surprise, I placed third and received a startup grant of 100,000 yen!  Currently, I am enrolled in a business start-up program hosted by my city and will complete all courses in mid-November 2020.

What To Expect

My weekly updates will take you behind the scenes as I document my journey from preparation to launch. I’ll talk about my business seminars, raising capital, Japanese laws and industry regulations, cosmetics coursework, roadblocks, and more.
