And I have a dream.

I have been working on War Wine for just about two years now. It started as a casual conversation in a Picarto chat stream, and ended with me rushing to see if 'War Wine' was a name that was available on DeviantArt. It wasn't, by the way. Two years later, I have foundations for a trilogy, several art pieces, and the first 'draft' of the first book complete, with editing underway. However, I do have a few problems.

I work your standard Monday to Friday, 9-5 office job. It pays the bills, gives me some spending money, and when there's down time, I can take a few minutes to work on my writing (doesn't really happen that often, though). On the weekends, I spend time with my husband, or at the gym, or cleaning the house, or out with my Mum, or something that doesn't entail me sitting in front of my keyboard and writing. Do I go grocery shopping or do I write? Do I spend time with my husband (who works the same hours, if not longer, as me) or do I write? It's taken me two years to get to where I am now (and one really good NaNoWriMo run in 2017). But two years to finish an unedited draft copy of one book seems an awful long time to me. I love my job, but I would rather pour my heart into the world of Eibolen, Wine, her companions, the trails they must blaze - not customers looking for spatulas and white plates.

What I really want - and need - is time.

More time. I want people to see this as an investment, so I can focus on being more productive with my writing. Here's what I want to accomplish:
  1. Complete the trilogy of War Wine, and have it go through the publication process.
  2. Start a compendium for the world of Eibolen, complete with short stories, lore, bestiary, spells, religions, and more.
  3. Get started on my next writing project, which is under wraps at the moment.
  4. Eat better. Spend more time going for walks and hiking and going to the gym. I want to take care of myself. All these things make for a hard working me when I sit down to write.

I want to quit my job and still be secure. By being able to write during the week, when I would have otherwise been at work, I am adding an additional 40 hours to my schedule I've never had the luxury of using before. If I can find a way to make around $2200/month, this will be possible.

My job is essentially glorified customer service, but it pays well. I live alone with my husband in a small apartment, but in a rising housing market - such is Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Construction of new towers and grocery stores in my city is going to up our current rent, and we still have bills to pay. To this end, making $2200/month covers all the bills with a small bit to spare for wants (not needs), and anything that might come up unexpectedly.

While this space builds momentum, I will provide monthly content to those that pledge, but if it ever looks like my minimum goal won't be reached, I will cancel the Patreon. If we earn more than $2200/month, however, I would like to add in little perks! What, you say? Bonus content, of course. Maybe an artbook of all the characters! Perhaps a collection of poetry and short stories. Maybe even an official soundtrack for the series! Time will tell, no? :)

Patrons pledging $10/month and up will get access to monthly exclusive content, which you will be able to digitally download. At least once a month, you will receive one of the following:

  • A digital art piece from a scene in one of the three books of the trilogy.
  • A draft page from the current book I am working on (as of right now, it would be book 1).
  • A short story on one of the characters in the series.

Want to contribute more than $10/month? That's awesome, thank you! I'll be adding some neat things for you folks, too: signed prints, sneak peeks into plot lines, that kinda stuff.

And you can always read the WIPs on my Wattpad!
