Many of us have been doing stuff with rabble for years on an entirely voluntary basis. There’s a huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to keep it going. Most of us have full time jobs and busy lives. We are time starved and are feeling the burn. It’s come to stage where we want to throw our energy into other projects. Every dog has its day as they say, and for those of us involved in rabble it’s time to draw line under it and move on.

Rather than have the whole project fade away into oblivion with a whimper, we’re going to put our energy into celebrating what rabble brought to the media landscape over the last 15 issues. We want to give the whole rabble community a chance to reflect on how deadly the whole experience was and go out with a bang.

So, we’re thinking of having a series of parties, events and exhibitions over the Autumn and Winter to finish the project up on a positive note. We want to get as many people involved and have several pots of ideas simmering away in the background and are investigating the logistics.

There’s talks of an annual style thing with the “best of rabble” and a series of fresh reflections and contributions on the project. The aim would be to release it before Christmas to our Patreon supporters. There’s some chat about selling it online and in shops if possible to pass on legacy cash to other projects we identify with. Ideally something that is coffee table quality, beautiful and looks really special. We also want to gather all our serialised comics in one small publication too, where the little madcap world of characters we’ve created over the years can rest in peace. We’ll be running something of a survey to get a wide range of input into how we shape these.

The hunt is on for an exhibition space for mid-Novemember to showcase the best of our artwork. We’re also looking for a venue for a one hell of a final rabble ruckus send off party. Depending on what venues we drum up, we’ll be jamming together some topical panels and maybe even a Notes On Rave In Dublin screening to give everyone a whopper day out.

As always these events will be free to our Patreon subscribers. We ENTIRELY UNDERSTAND, if you wish cease contributing to us via Patreon but for those of you that stick with us to the bitter end we’ll be sending each of you a copy of the final publications we work on and whatever other goodies we find when liquidating the agit-prop and back issues squirrelled away in our office.

This really wasn’t an easy or quick decision, but for those of us involved it is the right one.

Yours,

The rabble team.

Goals
$285 of $400 per month
Covering basic costs and keeping a roof on our heads.

We're talking the very basics here.  Crowdfunding the boring necessities like rent and utilities out of the way is a good start and means we stop bleeding the cash injection raised by volunteering with the Workers Beer Company over the years.

Things like covering our office space which comes in at €300 per month - we share a space in Jigsaw with Dublin Digital Radio, it’s turning into an important hub that allows us to meet and discuss our projects - and with a shitty housing crisis, it provides a valuable workspace for people involved in rabble way from the kitchen table or overpriced cafes. It's also a resource that has been used by other local activist groups like the Irish Housing Network amongst others.

Our web-hosting is about €30 per month, when those big hits happen they do cost. We also pay for an Adobe Creative Cloud suite which comes in at €60 per month and is an essential tool for our work. Anything leftover will go into our petty cash to cover ongoing expenses that arise (eg bus fares for interviews, batteries, various website plugin subscriptions, maybe a pizza for the contributors…!) and be pooled for printing future issues of rabble.
