Wessex Society was founded in 1999 to promote a regional consciousness for Wessex (the area of southern England west of London and east of the Tamar). Since then, we have succeeded in getting the Wessex flag flown on many local government buildings and businesses; commissioning an original anthem for the region; and publishing a high-quality quarterly magazine, the Wessex Chronicle. But the membership model, with a handful of people paying annual subscriptions and attending meetings had outlived its usefulness. In October 2017, we decided to move to an online model, using Patreon to raise funds and converting the Wessex Chronicle into a blog. Now, anyone can be a Wessex Society member! Look out for exclusive patron rewards coming soon.
