If you made it here, it's because you like my work. For that, I thank you. If you're interested in joining me to create even more stories for my new website wewentfast.com, I'd be most grateful.

I love story telling and if it involves a set of wheels, I'm in. My typical approach is to produce stories that people didn't even know they wanted to read. Enthusiasts expect event coverage, results, analysis and a lively debate over something that happened on the track. That's not me.

Everything I write is a bonus, a memorable reprieve in a very noisy world of content. If you've picked up a copy of Racer X, Dirt Rider, META, Motorcyclist or BIKE magazines lately you've read my stuff (byline: Brett Smith).

In 2013, my dad handed me a box of photos he took in the 1980s and 1990s when I raced motocross in the Midwest. @wewentfast became the place to share those memories.

Turns out, a lot of other people have similar memories of riding and racing and I know more will in future decades. But I want to give my followers and readers more than short anecdotes from my own racing 'career'. I want to write about our heroes, past and present, the stories behind the great photographs we used to see in the magazines (and unearth the ones that didn't) and experiment with ideas I haven't found a home for yet.

WHAT IS IT?
We Went Fast is for students of the sport. Focusing on history and current personalities, these are evergreen stories that teach, entertain and stick, thoroughly researched nonfiction that will leave a lasting impression.

One of the biggest complaints I hear is that riders don't have personalities; they're just sponsor-thanking robots. I want to challenge that. It's unrealistic to expect every rider to speak with the fire and honesty of Bob Hannah and Damon Bradshaw but there are some interesting athletes on wheels and my goal is to bring them to you by spending real time with them, at and away from the race tracks.

An Example: I recently published an article on Chad Reed and I took a trip down to Tampa to spend a couple of days with him and his wife, to earn their trust to let me into intimate details of their life. This type of coverage costs money. Jump in with me and you're going to like the return. Through small monthly financial contributions (as little as a buck!) you have a chance to help me build it. So, in a way, you'll own a piece of a publication, too and I might even rely on you for ideas.

We live in a hyper give-it-to-me-now world but remember: I'm producing content you didn't even know you wanted. And when you read it, hear it, see it, you'll wished you'd had it sooner. This website is a one-man band. It's a tall order to expect posts every day. Probably not going to happen for a while. But you won't want to miss what I will be providing.

I have some fun projects in the works for 2018. Get on board.

A buck. For stories you can't find anywhere else. That's it.

You can't add guacamole at Chipotle for less than a buck.

As a reward, I send you, not only virtual high fives, but you're in the community where I will let all my Patrons know what I am working on, where, when and why.

You will have exclusive access to behind the scenes reporting updates and photos. This is content that will not be posted to Instagram or elsewhere.

I love you so much that I'm going to start sending you stuff. Let's start with stickers. Enough stickers that you'll have a couple left over to share with your friends.

You're never going to notice the $3 missing from your bank account but if wewentfast.com didn't exist you would be missing out on great stories. $3 is one (good) cup of coffee a month.

You're also in the community so you'll be getting the exclusive updates.

You really like this website don't you!? Like Wayne and Garth, I bow and bellow, "I'm not worthy!"

This is $120 a year. It's not chump change and I feel the need to remind you that we're just getting started so things might be moving a little slow. Don't hit the refresh button 47 times a day expecting new stories.

But if you're in the mood for investing in this dream then I'm sending you my swag kit: stickers, shop rag, a keychain and a power band (disclosure: it's a rubber band but 'power band' makes for a fun conversation piece, right?)

And, of course, you're in the community! Thank you.
