About What's Left Ypsi

Help support a quarterly print and online community-led and free newspaper in Ypsilanti with a sustaining monthly donation.

About What's Left:
What’s Left is a print/online quarterly news source, established to provide a platform for Ypsilanti residents to be informed of current issues and community happenings.

What's Left aims to provide a space for residents to submit their own content to be added to those of the organizing group of What’s Left.

What’s Left is being created because there is no newspaper for the city, and few outlets for people to voice their concerns outside of social media. What outlets there are do not tend to present ideas and opinions that are inclusive of all. Many voices that are important to the community are either ignored or silenced, while business interests are too often amplified.

We are a group of concerned residents, activists, younger and older, who feel it is time to offer an outlet for both those who are active in town doings and those who are not—those who wish to add their voice to the public discourse.

We are seeking your opinions on the gap in local news coverage in Ypsilanti and want to see what we can build together as part of this publication and our media sharing practices. We want this coverage to center under-represented issues that workers/renters/people are facing and give public information that empowers Ypsilantians with the ability to understand the changes in the City with the help of nuanced public voices.

Submissions tendered will be reviewed for possible inclusion and there are no requirements or constraints as to content and subject matter. The working team of What’s Left reserves the right to publish or decline any and all submissions. We also reserve the right to edit all material submitted, with permission and pre-print approval of the original author(s) prior to publication. Bear in mind as you submit your writing that it will be accessible to all and as such certain laws apply regarding libel, slander and plagiarism. The founders and working members of What’s Left do not assume liability or responsibility for the content of community writers who submit their work, yet every attempt will be made to give a public voice to many perspectives that are often marginalized or ignored in mainstream media.
