Wilko Brouwers is creating musical compositions

Dear friends,

Years ago I was a member of a jury that had to judge newly written children songs. I then realized how hard it is to write something simple, which yet has both originality and high quality. These three features are always on my mind when I am composing: I want a piece to be understandable (which doesn't mean: easy), original and of high quality. The desire to write understandable music comes from the desire to reach people. I think the contemporary composer needs to find a way to motivate singers and players to perform his music with ardor and to offer the listeners beauty. This is why I am fascinated by Gregorian chant. Its melodic idiom is relatively simple and extremely rich in the same time. It conveys a message in which the messenger himself tries to stay in obscurity as much as possible. I am fascinated by the human voice with its countless colors and expressive possibilities. I am fascinated by language and by the borderland of speech and song. I am fasinated by the sacred act of playing, playing as a child does, which is the unlimited exploration of limited materials. I am fascinated by music as the language of a united mankind. I am fascinated by people who inspire each other, even without knowing that they do.
I truly hope not only to be supported but also to be inspired by you!

Peace to you all,

Wilko
Tiers
First score and first recordings
$5 or more per a composition or an arrangement
When you support my projects with $ 5 or more you will be the first to see the score (even before it is edited) of the new piece and to hear the recordings (even before they are broadcasted). Also you will have access to pieces that are not published elsewhere.
Goals
0% complete
It would be so wonderful if two songs on poems by James Joyce, that I wrote for bass solo and piano could be performed, recorded and broadcasted on YouTube. The songs are called "All day I hear the noise of waters making moan" and "In the dark pinewood", both from Joyce's "Chamber music". If with your support I reach $ 1000 I can hire profesional musicians and a professional audio studio to carry this project into effect.
