Hi! I’m William. I like to write. A few years ago when I couldn’t find a publisher for my first novel, the fantasy-adventure Fire on the Mound, a friend suggested that I turn the book into a podcast. So I created my first podcast novel -- it's much like a serialized audiobook -- with vocal performance, sound effects, and an original score. If you're unfamiliar with the series, check out the above trailer!

You can also visit the podcast's website where you can subscribe for free on various podcatcher platforms, as well as directly download the individual episode mp3 files.

Not only was creating the podcast a lot of fun, but I also made some great friends in the process -- Steve the reader and Will the composer. The podcast also won two awards -- the 2013 The Geekie Awards Best Narrative Audio Series and the 2014 Parsec Awards Best Speculative Fiction Story (Long Form). So that's cool!

Now I want to take what I learned from that experience and produce my second podcast novel. The first was fantasy, this next one will be sci-fi. Whereas Fire on the Mound was a single voice production, this new series will use a full cast, and I'm really excited to find actors for all the characters! William Seegers will be back to compose the score, and if you've heard his other work, you can imagine he's gonna create some crazy music for this jaunty sci-fi adventure!

Well, I’m going to create this new series independently, just like I did Fire on the Mound, but with your help I can make it even better, and certainly a lot quicker! Fire on the Mound was made by three people -- me, Steve Rudolph, and William Seegers. The series totaled 42 episodes, and each one ran roughly 30 minutes -- I spent about 40 hours in post-production per episode. You can see it took some time. I'd like to involve more people and create a shorter series, and also give the show itself a more playful attitude (think Cowboy Bebop meets A Princess of Mars meets Planet of the Apes meets Zardoz).

With your small recurring pledge I can give the new series crazier and richer sound effects -- buy field recording equipment (I used a phone to record the Fire on the Mound foley) -- pay artists for promotional artwork -- hire a choir to sing the villain’s theme song (let's face it, that's going to be awesome) -- and even promote the series with a wicked short film!

In return I’ll give you weekly access to my production process which includes character, vehicle, and monster design as well as revisions as I finish writing the novel (I'm on the third draft) -- casting the parts -- recording the full cast -- editing the episodes. Everything that needs to happen to make this series a reality. You'll be there! Uh, vicariously. ;P

This is the story of Ze: Shaman. Pariah. Savior. AND THE LAST WOMAN ON EARTH. She has sword fights with robots (you just gotta), battles monsters of all sizes (possibly a kaiju?) -- and faces the existential dilemma of what it is to be human at the end of history as she confronts the new power running her world! I invite you to journey with Ze as she navigates a topsy-turvy post-post-apocalyptic world in the year 33,000 (or thereabouts).

And yes, there’s a little bit of smooching.

I'm really excited to finish this book and bring it to your ears as a podcast novel!

Thank you for your consideration!
