About

The true, the good, the beautiful. What if we zealously devoted ourselves to the pursuit of these things above all else? Could these three “transcendentals” offer us a common point of reference that transcends differences of creed, politics, and culture?

If we pursued the true, the good, and the beautiful with half the energy we pursue new technology, don’t you think we could change the world twice, three times, ten times more than our technology has?

These are the questions that I ponder at three in the morning as I listen to the quiet house. (Quiet except for the rasping of the asthmatic dog, that is.)

I don’t know about you, but I’m all in. That’s not to say that I’m personally true, good, or beautiful (ahem), but I am all about tracking these elusive creatures as best I can and sharing what I find in my writing—in essays, poems, books, short fiction…you name it. If it’s made of words, I can probably put it together. And my hope is that the words I put together will be a kind of lantern in the window for some of my fellow travelers crossing these dark prairies.

To put it more plainly, I’m committed to reporting my findings as widely as possible, in publications at the heart of the culture. The best place to see how I’m doing that is the Windhovering website, where I collect pretty much everything I’ve published and some sundry items that never found a home.

So, that’s the plan. Want to tag along for the ride? You can become a patron of my work, and your support will enable me to take on chancier, long-term projects that serve the purpose I’ve laid out here rather than scrambling around the pavement in search of loose change.

Good? Good.

By the way, a note about my small publishing house, Gracewatch Media. Longtime Patreon supporters may already know that the Peanut Butter & Grace line of books and digital products for Catholic families was sold to Our Sunday Visitor; you can check out this post for an explanation. I’m still publishing through Gracewatch Media on a smaller (and more manageable) scale, with a focus on books and digital products that help Catholics tell the story of God’s love for the world.
