Hello, this is Marcus Wong. I started photographing the railways of Victoria a decade ago, and have since branched out into public transport, infrastructure and industry, both in Australia around the world. As well as photography, I also write about and research the history of what I capture.
What do you create?
You can find my work around the web, including:
All of the above work takes lots of time to create, with none of it being part of my day job. Web hosting, travel expenses, camera equipment - it is all a labour of love right now.
I do what I do because I'm naturally curious about the world that I live in. If the work that I create also interests you, any contribution you make will help me to spend more time creating.
What do I get?
As well as all of the above work I've listed above, if you sign up as a patron you also get some special rewards to thank you for your contribution.
What if I don't become a patron? Does anything change?
Nothing changes. Spreading knowledge is what means the most to me, and locking away content is the opposite of this.
What do you create?
You can find my work around the web, including:
- a weekly post on my main blog at Waking up in Geelong,
- a fortnightly post about Hong Kong at Checkerboard Hill,
- a fortnightly post about European rail at Euro Gunzel,
- a regularly updated stream of Victorian and interstate railway photography at Wongm's Rail Gallery,
- ongoing research on the railways of Geelong at Rail Geelong,
- local and overseas photography on all kinds of subjects at Flickr,
- an irregular stream of railway videos on my YouTube channel,
- and a selection of open sourced code that drives all of the above.
All of the above work takes lots of time to create, with none of it being part of my day job. Web hosting, travel expenses, camera equipment - it is all a labour of love right now.

$71.28 of $100 per month
I've been using Canon camera gear for years and their digital SLRs and
lenses are pretty bulletproof, but I eventually wear them out - time to
squirrel some cash away for the next replacement.
