Books and literature and prose have always been a primary source of comfort and security to me for as l can recall, probably even longer than that. I had a rather turbulent childhood, and due to a combination of that and a general lack of ability to connect to my peers, the words I read were often the easiest company I could keep within reach.
As I grew older, I came to find that the words I could write would often be just as sturdy and safe as the words I would read. I was probably twelve or thirteen when I first took an interest in trying to write poetry. I've never been known for being the most eloquent in conversation, I would struggle greatly (and still do) to hold a conversation without being able to plan my thoughts in advance. There is something so empowering to me about an art form that specifically involves taking the time to string the right combinations of the right words together in a carefully planned structure to get a message across. It's empowering for me to have an outlet that allows me to express my thoughts without feeling pressured to get my point across on the fly.
Recently, it has occurred to me that writing- rather it's specifically poetry or anything else- is something that I want to put extra effort into taking the time to work on. And I suppose that's the point of this page, to look at the people who want to see my work and remember that if all else fails, I will always have a reason to push through and keep writing regardless of how much I'm struggling.
