Xaltembatv is a YouTube channel created by Juan Gonzalez. Our area of focus is the Nayarit section of the Mexican Pacific, where we not only document the coastline and man’s effects on it but we also promote and perform investigation into what measures are being taken to protect the natural environment in this tropical land & seascape. Our founder has dedicated his life to film & after the heights of his Hollywood career, Juan now believes the greatest contribution he can make is documenting and protecting this slice of earth that he has adopted as his home.

The main goal is to be able to do the real study that Juan came here to do 10 years ago. Juan arrived to La Penita to make a documentary series on the coast, featuring the ecosystems, like estuaries, beaches, reefs whilst keeping a firm eye on the anthropogenic impact on our area. People, like you and me, have a major effect on our natural surroundings. How are the sewer systems affecting the sea? How are the fishermen helping or hindering the protection of the species they catch? Who are the scholars, politicians or local business owners that are implementing real measures to protect this unique environment?

To do this, we need money for gas, food, accommodation and other resources. Juan has been documenting the area for the love of the art but has had to find other sources of income that naturally distract him from the meaningful work he yearns to do. He has many local supporters that help him out, a great housesitting gig and he is a great proponent of the exchange especially with local restaurateurs! Now Juan needs Patrons like you to live fully from online income. The local economy here in the Occidental Pacific coast is limited and depends on tourism. Juan has been working for the Compostela Hotel Association, filming events as exciting as the underwater cleanup with Project AWARE & the women’s national volleyball tournament but has also been putting up with filming segments that are not aligned with the original vision.

Juan’s monthly pre-Patreon income is $30 USD Mexican state pension & $100 USD that he receives from YouTube and gets free mangos from the tree in his garden. In order to live without his stipend from the Hotel Association, he is beginning to pick up jobs doing commercials for local businesses to make enough money to live. However, it is vital that the Xaltembatv Channel return to its essence by receiving an independent revenue stream which is where YOU come in. This is for you if you would like to see more videos about ecological and social issues in the Nayarit coastal area or if you would like to help a veteran filmmaker do what he loves and fulfil his dream of bringing positive change to this tropical ecosystem.

  • Buy Juan the proverbial cup of coffee each month! This tier is small but mighty.
  • If Juan were your neighbor, no doubt treating him to a quality coffee every so often would seem well within your budget.
  • Especially when you get to hear his stories about working with Orson Welles on the Trial or what it was like being a Mexican in Hollywood!
  • Well, this is just like that except those $3 dollars could turn into  a liveable wage for Juan or even enough money to upgrade Xaltembatv’s equipment, if there are enough of you. And to hear those stories, just tune in to the Patron Exclusive Content on Patreon.
  • Exclusive Patreon Content - video interviews with Xaltembatv's founder, personal updates & current affairs commentary on the Patreon Feed AKA the Xaltemba Diaries.
  • XaltembaTV sticker will wing its way to you in the mail!

  • With $30 USD we can get a tank of gas for the Xaltembatv truck to go film the pelicans at the untouched Mataiza lagoon, near Zacualpan.
  • Or we can give some decent money to the captain for a trip to catch dorado or sea snail and stop begging favors from local fishermen.
  • We can pay a local lady to show us her recipe for sea snail ceviche.
  • We need new batteries for the DJI Phantom drone to shoot the crocodile in the La Penita estuary.
  • Your patronage means we can patronize hard-working local people as well as keep this project alive.

In return:

  • Exclusive Patreon Content - video interviews with Xaltembatv's founder, personal updates & current affairs commentary on the Patreon Feed AKA the Xaltemba Diaries.
  • XaltembaTV sticker will wing its way to you in the mail!
  • We will thank you publicly in our video features, unless you wish to remain anonymous.
  • We will give you a guided tour of the La Penita estuary system.

This kind of contribution could really make the difference for our channel and our founder. The security of having a week's worth of groceries will give him much greater freedom to discover and reveal the ecology of our area. Life in the tropics can take its toll on our equipment and electricity for dehumidifiers is expensive.

If several sponsors come in at this level, we will be able to hire a production assistant and reach more fascinating places on the Western coast of Mexico.

In return:

  • An exclusive handmade print (worth $400 usd) will be sent to you made images of Juan Gonzalez' photography.
