Full time writing from home!
$700 per month
Meeting this goal each month would cover all of my current bills and would mean that I could ditch general commissions and part-time jobs, focusing almost all of my time on personal/visual novel writing. I would be able to set aside two days a week for personal writing and three full days a week on writing for visual novels.

About

I'm a 25-year-old female writer/game developer based in Dallas, TX who works primarily on visual novels using Ren'Py. I've been doing this since 2011 and now am the writer/programmer for Cyanide Tea and Lettuce Waltz. (very classy group names, I know) I also do freelance writing for other companies/groups and the occasional Japanese->English translation. I specialize in heavier stories, especially those with fantasy settings and/or an emphasis on family dynamics and psychology. For a complete list of the visual novels I have and am working on, please see my portfolio.

Hi there!

I'm Lorelei Nguyen, commonly known as "Lore". You might know me for the visual novels I've written, or perhaps from social media such as Twitter or Tumblr, where I've been active for a number of years. I am finishing up my college education pretty soon and would like nothing more than to devote my time and energy to writing once college is over. Of course, this can only be possible if I'm able to sustain myself while doing so. This is where you come in! With your support, I can start taking steps towards fulfilling my dream of being a full-time writer.

Right now, my time is very divided. Even putting college coursework aside, I have to do a lot of writing/translation commissions and part-time jobs to pay the bills and this doesn't leave me with a lot of time to work on visual novels or do any personal work. It has been a very long time since I've been able to write prose that somebody else wasn't telling me to write. The closer I get towards reaching my Patreon goals, the more time I'll be able to free up to work on the things that I want to work on.

My ultimate goal is to be able to have enough money to move into my own place, but that is a goal for when I have more stability in my life. Still, meeting the higher goals will allow me to save up more towards doing that.

If you'd like to just make a one-time donation or don't feel like subscribing, you can do so here!

What is this "personal writing"? How is it different from your visual novel writing?

While I have a lot of fun with my visual novel writing work, all of the visual novels I work on are collaborative efforts. They are (sometimes commercial) projects that I work on with other people. My personal projects are purely things I want to write for myself. These include (primarily Diabolik Lovers right now) fanfiction, short stories about my original characters, and chapters of my novel-in-progress Eventide. The character Aeneas you see in the header for this Patreon is the main character of Eventide. I greatly enjoy writing these things, but right now lack the time for it.

The vast majority of prose I've written over the last year has been on commission. Occasionally I've had time to write something as a birthday present, but almost no time to work on my novel or fanfiction. I've had to prioritize my visual novel writing to the point of excluding almost everything else, but if I had more time I'd really love to be able to write both visual novels and personal prose!

What do I get for pledging?

On the rewards list, you'll notice mentions of my fanfiction writing priority list. This is basically a bucket list of fanfiction that I would love to write if I had more time to do so. Once this Patreon starts reaching its goals and my work clears up some, I'll be able to work on things from that priority list more often. As a patron, you gain the ability to vote on the priority list. When I find the time to work on fanfiction, I will write the first thing from that list. You don't have to vote for the same thing twice/thrice if you are in those tiers; you can divide up your votes however you wish.

Another special perk is alpha and/or beta access to the commercial games I'm working on. Right now that means Break Chance Memento and Spirit Parade. Typically, alpha and beta access is reserved for testers, but if you'd like special sneak peeks without being obligated to give feedback (though of course we'd always love feedback) then pledge to those tiers and you'll get in!

Each of the different tiers gets various different rewards. Some of the tiers are limited, so please be aware of that. Unfortunately, I can't offer too much writing as patron perks, as my ultimate goal here is to become independent and able to focus on personal/visual novel writing. If I have to spend too much time on monthly rewards, I'll be back at square one. If you have suggestions for other perks or rewards, though, please let me know!

If I do have to open commissions for whatever reason, as a patron you will receive priority/early access to my slots.

In Closing

Thank you very much for your time and consideration! tl;dr: if you like what I do and would like to see more of it more quickly, please consider pledging! I promise your money will make a real difference and we'll have lots of fun together!
